I’m smitten by my copper foil Merata. Love the blade shape, the ergonomics, the contrast in aesthetics.

However, I wish the action was just a bit glassier/smoother. Maybe it has to do with the blackened blade vs satin. No matter how I cleaned and lubed (KPL), it isn’t getting that effortless glassy action like my Makani or Ziffius.

^^ I’ve got the Satin/Tiger version and I ordered the Black/Black which gets here Tuesday. I’ll let you know if there’s a difference with the coated blade.

The Satin/Tiger is glassy smooth drop shut. It’s amazing action is a big part of why I bought a second one.

It was that good BEFORE I put Skiff bearings in it. :)

What size Skiff bearings? Do you think it makes enough of a difference that I should try with my Merata?

lmcq784 lmcq784 I got the Black/Black in a few days ago. It is also pretty smooth. It’s maybe just slightly “stickier”due to the stonewash/coated finish, but barely.

Have you fully disassembled yours? I will say the pivot is slightly different than any other WE knife I have in that it seems there’s a wider range of adjustment needed to tweak it to the perfect tension on the bearings. Have you ran the pivot on the lighter tension side? What did that do?

Yes, I have done a full disassembly and clean/lube with KPL.
It’s not that it isn’t smooth. It’s not “sticky” like it doesn’t want to move. It opens well when I do my part. But I *can* fail a deployment if I didn’t hit it right or something. It’s just a level of nitpicking that it feel like it’s not as “glassy” compared to my other satin finished WEs. With the Ziffius and Makani, they’re SO smooth that it’s VERY hard for me to fail a deployment even when I try.

Again, not a complaint at all and not that I ever fail it in actual use. Just nitpicking the level of refinement and feel. Kind of like nitpicking the feel of a 3000 grit edge vs a mirrored edge or arguing the difference in grip texture between canvas Micarta vs denim Micarta.

I enjoyed watching WE give away all those nice knives last night live at the NRA show. I really do like the Merata but not sure about the red white and blue theme. I like black and blue CF, or red and blue CF though.

^^ I think the red, white and blue FatCarbon looks a little too busy and perhaps gaudy. Different strokes I guess.

Yes, the Tiger Stripe Flamed FEELS nice too. Super grippy texture you get when they anodize like that.

I really wish WE would go back and revisit some of their 2-3 year old models with that pattern.
