I just designed a new webpage for Matt Draper - the guy making the cool concealex Bali sheaths (which I hear he is making off the shelf now after some prototyping - i.e. that it will fit other BM42's but back away I have to have mine first.. must have the #001 prototype to test =) ) so yeah I guess it is semi related.. I am more gloating about the new design I sweated over more than anything.

Looks pretty nice there!

The bali "holsters"... can I hear a testimonial?

Looks like the balisong would fall out using it horizontally (pic on the right).

You are very sharp sir. Here is a full in the face review of the sheaths...
http://www.contrib.andrew.cmu.edu/~soo/balisong/article11_2.html

I stated that the bali prototype sheath is unstable in the 'strip down' (as opposed to the 'strip up' config.. I tried jumping down from a ledge 5 feet high and it woudl get dislodged and woudl eventually fall off, no lying about that. And when I do heavy running i usually have my hand on the sheath. It is annoying for a bit but I believe in this sheath that I carry my 45 in no other sheath EVER. The prototype did it's job and Waxes and I are hard at work perfecting the design.. with a little touch up we have come to a simple solution.

Master Clay suggested that instead of a STRIP DOWN maneuver we shoudlo do a horontal STRIP TO THE SIDE this will not work cause you woudl be holdin gon the bite handle and woudl have to do a bite handle opening. But for normal walking or light jogging the original design is surprisingly stable.

I have used the sheath in question. It works remarkably well.

High on my list of things to do with a BM42 as soon as I get an appropriate one in, is to send it off to Matt for just such a sheath. The fit is very critical, so you have to send him the exact knife you intend to use so that he can fit the sheath to it exactly.

Aaaaaaaaaa.......... Someone wasn't listening!

My horizontal strip idea will work like a charm, believe me. Heres a few pics. I lightened up the Balis so you could see the sheaths better.

Both designs support the Balisong from the top AND bottom, and both designs automatically pop the latch. They'll both work on the right or left side as well.

The first one is great for pulling forward on the "horns" (the way Chuck likes). The second is better for a Horizontal technique.

I never do master clay but you must admit we never got it down and showed each other pics of your design so I am not at a total dumbfounded state

Hi NaTeDoGG, I have the IWB you see pictured. It works like a charm, and is VERY secure. I believe you have to have the right build for it to be comfortable tho (I do - on the large side). I have yet to get one of the horizontal rigs - I have my 42, but haven't had a chance to get it to Matt (actually I'm waiting to send it along w/something else I have to send him to save one shipping).

Clay.... your picture confuses me! All I see is 2 balis with some black stuff on them... :/

Thanks for the link sniper!

So the sheath is best for a "user" knife? Would I put my 42as in there (lets pretend I have one for just one beautiful sec, k?
wink.gif
)? I hear that coloring can wear off.

I plan on carrying a few different knives. Sometimes I'll carry one of my users, sometimes I'll carry a 42s. How well would the sheath work for different balis? I don't want to have to buy a sheath for each one... I also wouldn't want to have to send my only bm42...

EDIT: how goes the search sniper?

Hey Natedogg. Personally I do not want to find out first hand if the 42A's colour does rub off.. you knwo what I', sayin'
smile.gif
but I do plan to put my 42's in one. But yes it has definitely got toobe a user knife.. keep in mind though that concealex has to MOLD around your knife.. so say you make a sheath for a 42, that wont work for a 45, but for sake of example it WILL work on a 42S. Now if you make one for a 45, My guess is that it will not work for a 44. Quoting Matt, Concealex is a material so precise in its function that just a little millimeters off and the whole knife will shake loose. Basically said each knife has to have it's own sheath, there is no generic sheath you can make ith concealex that will work as good as the custom fit.

and what search are we talkign abou there sir? =) did you place a bounty hunt assignment for me? I forget.

Anodized finishes are very thin. The color does not penetrate the metal very far at all. We're litterally talking a few atoms thick. So, yes, it does rub off and scratches easily. Plastic sheaths are probably not the best idea for a 42A that you want to keep nice.
