hey folks.. just thought i would share some thoughts and pics on my new MP knives utility knife, i recently received from Matt.. it has a sort of scandi/puukko style to it..
After seeing some pics of Matt Paul's knives on another forums, i was really impressed with his work.. I contacted him and he and i exchanged some messages back and fourth, and this was the final product.. man oh man, is this thing nice..:dblthumb:
i recently finished up a simple pouch sheath for it.. i'll try and get some pics of it up soon..
here is some specs first..
- 5160 steel. stick tang.
- 3 1/4" blade
- 1" tall.
- 3/16" thick at the spine, 1/8" thick where the edge starts.
- scandi-vex grind.
- 4.5 in. handle of red oak, with elk antler and white spacers.
this knife is absolutely stunning.. my pics don't do it justice..
i love the red oak and elk stag handle.. they have a nice warm feel to them..
the combo compliment each other very well..
the 3 1/4 in. the blade is just about perfect for a simple utility style knife and suits my needs well.. i love the forge finish, it tapers down to a nice SHARP scandi-vex grind..
at 3/16 thick, the blade tapers down to about 1/8 thick right where the edge starts..
i haven't taken any new pics of it, but i have been using this knife in the kitchen, as well as playing outside with it a bit.. it is wicked sharp and so far has proven to be a solid user..
the handle contours are very comfortable, they seem to fit my hand perfectly.. it locks right in, nice and solid..
Matt did a great job on this one, I am very impressed with this knife and am looking forward to seeing more of his work in the future..
cheers.. Mike
