Just got this knife and sheath today. Decided to do something different and rather carrying survival gear on my knife I carry some stuff that I always use. It's a 5.5" Randall model #18 and spec ops combat master sheath.

In/on the sheath I carry a fenix flashlight, coghlans firestarter, lighter, a few storm matches, about 15' of tarred nylon cord and 20' of snare wire on the back.

And heres a shot of just the knife. I carry a tube of storm matches in the handle.

Can't wait to get out in the woods and put this badboy to some use.

That's a beauty! An ODA team guy used the larger version in Ecuador...it had seen plenty of use and he wasn't gentle with it either. It's one well made hollow handle knife:thumbup:

I had a model 18 for a while, such a cool knife. I couldn't bring myself to use it though! Your setup looks great and I'd be proud to carry that into the woods.

Thanks for the positive responses guys, if anyone wants to critique the setup feel free, I dont mind learning new things.

Ok, so I couldnt wait til tomorrow to get in a little time with this new toy, so I went out squirrel hunting and goofing around for a couple hours. I really wanted to see how it would compare to my shadow IV.

Here it is with a couple trap parts I made.

No problem helping getting a fire going.

I batonned a little bit of wood making the trap parts and starting the fire. The sawteeth and sharpened edge are absolute hell on the baton youre using. I also learned that ya gotta be extra careful with this knife, not many edges left unsharpened.

Glad you finally got it. Thats a good lookin' setup, I gots no critique on it at all. Solid blade, and its a Randall, what more could you want?

Sidenote, how you likin' that TacTool? Used it any?

knife looked good

my main concern is the fire....
1.
plain from firesteel.............strike one..fire(without any form of paper,or anything else)
2.
firesteel with help
im laying out shavings..then striking the rod....toilet paper grabs the spark.

Ive put that tactool to plenty use. Found out the wire breaker notch is great for pulling nails too lol.

Isn't there a place thatll put together a swiss army knife with just the tools you want out of Victorinox parts? If anyone does that, let me know. Id love to have a SAK with just large blade, scissors, pliers and wood saw on it.
