New Work Sharp Ken Onion Edition

I love my original WSKTS but this one certainly looks like an improvement. Of course, i haven't used the guide with mine since the first day i got it

I have the KO edition and love it. What kept me from buying the original Work Sharp was the 20 degree limitation. I've sharpened quite a few kitchen knives at 15 or 16 degrees per side with the new Work Sharp KO Edition with excellent results. I'm looking forward to the release date so I can pick up one of the attachments and some new belts.

Morrow, have they made any improvements as far as rounding tips?

O_o

I just remove the attachment and do it freehand:thumbup:. Do any angle you want. I've even reground a few knives for giggles:D.

How's the belt selection for that thing? I figure I may have to pass on it since MicroMesh doesn't seem to have any 3/4" belts for it. And while they do seem to have belt separation issues, the abrasion is fast and the finish is fine for them. I also like to take a worn belt, rub sandpaper on it while it's running to take off all the abrasive, then apply Mother's Mag & Aluminum Polish on the belt for use as a power strop:thumbup:.

Uhh, not sure there's anything they can do about that on their end;). I strongly recommend you practice running the blade across, then removing it without dragging the tip off the belt(preferably before the halfway point). That's typically where the rounded tip occurs:thumbup:.

Actually because of the risk of rounded tips,I don't use the guide.
In the video,it looks as though they have "guide" you flip around to keep the tip of the blade from dropping into the belt.

Either way,I am getting one.The original WSKTS gives fantastic edges and this looks to be an upgrade.

It looks like a great upgrade I just wish they made an 18 degree guide for the original, not to mention a way to v grind.

How do you free hand it? Just curious what method you use, if it is two handed or a single hand draw.

I was sent one to test out and provide feedback.

Thanks. What attachment do you think you will need with it? Have you found another source for 3/4"X12" abrasive belts?

OT

I saw an attachment at Blade that would allow for horizontal freehand sharpening. I've not looked for any additional sources of the belts.

Will the WSKTS-KO model handle knives like a Strider or Busse that may run .250" thick with the sharpeners guard/guides in place?

I haven't seen a shot/picture yet that would allow me to tell if it can handle thicker knives yet still allow me to put a nice 40 degree combine edge on them.

I spent forever on a Sharpmaker (even with the diamond rods) trying to get my latest SMF down to 20 degrees per side. I love the Sharpmaker for most of my knives, the key is to not let them get dull in the first place BUT if this things is like having your own belt grinder but with guides/guards so as to prevent you from screwing up your blade I'll HAVE to own one.

Thanks in advance for any information you may have from using one.

If you guys want belts for the WS, I ordered some from skookumtools.com in sidney, bc, canada. They are just 20 min. from my place. They will just call Klingspoor and order any size you want. It seems Klingspoor will custom make any size. They ordered some for the original WS and they work great.
