So not too long ago i purchased the work sharp Ken onion edition and have been blown away at the ease of use and razor sharp results. Being pleased with that model I went to go get the guided field sharpener off a recommendation, that's when I discovered the new guided sharpener. So intrigued by it I went with it instead of the field sharpener, and I gotta admit it's another excellent product from work sharp.

Super easy to use and not as steep of a learning curve as there belt sharpener. From the very first knife I got razor sharp results in minutes. This thing is prefect for the knives that you don't want to convex, or are smaller and difficult to sharpen on the original.

The only thing I don't like is the fact they make you buy an upgrade kit to get all the diamond stones, they should've included it all in one package. I didn't buy em then as I wanted to check the system out first but think I'll be picking it up soon.

This is just my initial impressions as I literally just got it, and will update the more I use it, but right now I'm loving it. It doesn't get much easier than this, and definitely gets sharper results than my old strop on sand paper over glass method.

Just a tip thou if you get one of these read the booklet. It has allot of useful tips such as putting tape on uncoated knives you don't want scratched. I failed to read this and excitedly jumped straight into sharpening and ended up with scuffs from the guides on a satin finish blade. Nothing real bad but scratched noneless. Just something to watch out for on a beauty peace.

Other than that this thing is a dream to use.

Can you post a couple shots of it in use? I think I get it, but...
I think rather than pix look on you tube, there several of the "famous" youtubers who review knives and gear who were lucky enough to get a freebie model for there channels. They will show how its used.

I just took a quick look at their website video, pretty need. Similar to the field sharpener, rather than using a 20dps and 17 dps, they should have used something like a 12 dps and 15 dps wedge. Keep in mind that every knife already has a primary grind of a few degrees, depending on the size. So applying the 17 dps really means getting a 20-22 dps edge. Maybe one day a more adjustable angle guide comes along.

Otherwise looks like a great device

Honestly is a great tool even without the edge guides, the pivoting action makes keeping full stone contact all the way to the tip a breeze.

Yea it's only $62with tax at cabelas. I'd rather pay extra 10 and have it immediately and for ease of return if need be then to wait for delivery, possible shipping damage or delays.

Ok so after using this thing a lil more I retract what I've said about it. It's a cool concept but needs better execution.

I've sharpened several knives on it and the guides are only good if your sharpening thinner profile knives. I tried sharpening a bk2 and while it did get sharp at first it dulled with minimal use. Using the 17° guide I still ended up with a bevel of atleast 25° bc of blade thickness I'm assuming.

Even my benchmade 162 sharpened on the 17° guide ended up with a much greater angle and dulled relatively quick.
I then sharpened both knives again using sandpaper over glass and got much better results in sharpness and edge retention.

About the only way this thing is going to work properly is by ditching the guides and free handing it, so the only thing your gaining with this system is not having to raise up near the tip. That factor alone isn't worth $100 to me.

It's getting returned today.
