getting 'em open
is half the fun!

The article didn't say anything that we didn't already know. It sure is nice to see the 42 getting some pablicity though, mabe more and more people will become interested in them and balis will become more and more socially excepted.

Yeah, after I read this post, I went to go check out the magazine. It is only a 2 page simple history-statistic of BM balisongs. Not to special, but but its nice to see some coverage of it.

"balis will become more and more socially excepted" from a write up in "Combat Handguns"?

I dunno, but something about combining handguns, "evil knives" that are banned in way to many places and the word "combat" doesn't scream "Socialy Accepted" to me. I though it was funny anyway...

Maybe we should pull some strings and have someone do a write-up in Better Homes and Gardens.

It would be hilarious to get all the grannies and foilage freaks involved.

Or even better, have it listed in a U-line or some other shipping catalog as a packaging or shipping blade. How convenient can you get?

sometime I wonder to myself.. will we still like balis if old grannies used it to trim their prize roses? (or worse yet if computer cluster geeks used it to clean their nails >_<) (I guess this goes back to loving the non mainstream) but I am all for them old grannies dong arials.. will work their joints a lot

Well, the reason I got interested in balis was the exercise in hand dexterity which they are supposed to be good for. At the moment, I have some chemical burns on my fingers, so I can't state much about their effectiveness, but once I get soem skin back, we shall see...

Not that I don't think they are very good for other uses, but in the areas where I spend most my time, I have to explain too often that they are not, in fact, illegal, to make it worthwhile to carry one.

P.S., my ninja-wanabee neighbor whom some of you may know about seemed crushed when I told him that he wasn't breaking hte law with his collection of ultra-sheap balis. Go figure...

I do prune my prized roses with a BM44.

I've also had very good results with the elderly and balisongs. I've found that the balisong is the best knife for someone with bad arthritis. For these people, pressing something, especially with the thumb is very difficult.

Often, the thumb is one of the most aflicted limbs. Think about opening a common folding knife. You hold the knife in your left hand, often, pressing the knife between your thumb and forefinger. Then, you grab the spine of the blade with your right hand, again using the thumb and forefinger, and unfold the knife. For an elderly person, these two grips can be impossible.

So, here in Oregon, we get 'em a nice automatic knife. But, they still have to press the button with their thumb. No good.

But, there are many simple balisong openings which almost don't involve the thumb.

So, I've converted several older folks to balisongs.

In fact, the best route to legalizing the balisong may be the ADA.

So, a balisong article in Modern Maturity may be more possible than you might think.
