Man. That was quick. What like 2 days from Reno to WV???

I have handled 2 of the original YCS's and I was in on the first run of newer models a few years back and I think this one is superior in a lot of ways.

It's as light or lighter than the originals I played with but with a longer handle that is a bit thinner(good IMO)

This one feels really light when you swing it but with the shape it has concentrated impact.

I'll do a full review later I want to polish out the edge some. But I did a little chopping with it and no chipping or rolling.

Best version of any I have tried. One complaint though is the frog is set low and with the heavier knives and awl the sheath twists and balances on it's side.

Thanks for the quick update. Looking forward to more details and photo's when you get the time.

Since another 27ounce YCS has appeared there is hope that more of the same weight will follow.

Anyone lucky enough to get one will be getting a fantastic working Khuk of great beauty.

Great news, I will ask shop and Kamis to make a better fit and finish frog for the next shipment.

Yangdu,

What they need to do is to make it wrap around the sheath higher up. I may be able to fix this one but if you look it wraps around the sheath below where all the tools are, nearly in the middle of the sheath so it's top heavy:

Hard to tell without putting it on a belt but this one from the 3/11 DOTD seems to have a frog that sets higher on the sheath and might not twist.

But for sure they need to raise the frog up higher.

Sounds like Superb Blade HollowDweller!
RE: the frog and where it "rides"... I have found on the Everest Katana, that the frog that comes with it would be even Better if it were 4-5 inches Lower from ones belt.
I am going to wear it to The New York Renaissance Faire in Sterling, NY and it seems that with how the frog is now, that the top of the handle rides in my lt armpit.
I took the frog from Our Wazashki (sp?) and tried the E Kat on using that frog and found that the amount of drop was perfect for the length and all.
I am only 6ft tall, so maybe if I was a bit taller the Original frog that comes with the Everest Katana would be right on.
Just my 2 cents worth!!

I Really Enjoy my Long HI Blades!!

RE: The above and "frogs"..... As usual, Auntie Yangdu, when I asked her about purchasing a frog with a longer drop to it, said No charge, and I will order it for You!!

Such Warm Friendly Service... Thanks Much Ms. Yangdu!!

In regards to the YCS from 3/11.... I was lucky enough to get that one. When I hold it by the top of the frog, it stays straight, but tilts in towards the body about 30 degrees... about perfect for me, as it keeps it nice and tight to the body.

This is also about the nicest rig I've gotten from HI over the years. Everything is spot on, and it feels like it's gonna be a real workhorse. I'll have to save the testing till I have time and wood to get at... This generation of the YCS is top notch for sure. In addition, the chape on this one was actually duller than the awl... so I guess that's good on both counts:D

Whats the overall length on those, just love the shape!!

If hollowdweller does not mind too much and if he will correct any errors, I will help our Kiwi mate out.

This is a 17 inch 22 ounce YCS by Bura.

I believe tique's was 17 inch 27 ounce and also by master Kami Bura?

It is hoped that YCS will now be available in lighter weights for old blokes like me with shoulder problems.:o

A few PICS

The edge needs a bit of tweaking to optimize it. I'll do a full review after that.

Tique,

Look how much higher the loop part is on yours too.
