I just got my new yet old survival sheath. Let me explain. It’s a LMIWS, I’ve owned one before around 8 or 10 years ago (hence OLD) but had to sell it because I couldn’t afford a knife to fit in it.
This time I bought the sheath with a knife.
The SYKCO 1111. I really love the knife, perfect chopper and survival knife.
In the first tin I put Aviation Survival Magnesium fire starter with US Shelby Co Can opener tucked inside a small piece of bicycle rubber. Also has magnesium sparklers and waterproof wax starters.
In the second tin I have - fishing twine-hooks-sinkers-waterproof matches-compass-sew up needles.razor blade.

Let me know what you have in your SHTF Setup.

My SHTF setup is a 1/300 SHBM, with an ESEE pouch containing a knife maintenance kit - Fallkniven DC3 (diamond and ceramic stone), a block of 'magic eraser' rust remover, scotch brite and a cloth to dry it off with.

Currently paired with a Leatherman Wave and a custom hunting knife in Magnacut by David Mary.

I wish they were still making those sheaths. Any good alternatives?

(I’m also sad that there doesn’t seem to be any more Spec Ops Combat Master sheaths around either… those were good sheaths that for the Bill for sure a few Busse and Kin models too.)

They still make the Spec Ops sheaths. They are on the website right now.

A good cheap alternative is the British Army Machete sheath KA 8465-99-495-9250

They were made in the 1990s and can be found for around $20. They were designed for the Martindale Golok but it works perfectly with the DT12, length is spot on, and the retention strap works perfectly on mine.

The sheaths all appear left handed for the Martindale but can only be used right handed for the DT12. My BWM fits both ways but then the sheath is a little longer than the blade.

Wish I could post a pic for you but a search of the web should find them.

Love that small fixed blade.

That is a great setup. I can't recall for sure, but I think you may have got that 1111 and sheath from me quite a while back. I sold both my LMIW Footlongs with blades. Man, those are hard to come by. I barely found another sheath! Glad to have one again. I have a older Tan one incoming. I hope to set it up like yours but now I have to decide what blade goes in there. I might not have a 11" blade and a DT12 may not fit... and a B9 is probably too short. First world problems.

Would the Choppasaurus fit?

I just tried a bunch of my blades and the DT-12 is too long, the R9 and B9 and Chophouse are good but 2" wasted space being only 9"... so this is the only blade I have that fits right now... I need a 1111. OKC RTAKII looks good though, but I already have good Kydex for the RTAKII... glad I have the LMIW though. Tough grab today, especially the older ones.

They still make the Spec Ops sheaths. They are on the website right now.
Spec Ops got more expensive like most things... and there is no more BASIC model which was a nice $30-$40 option back in the day, but the Combat Master is still being made and still great. Spec-Ops could clean up in my opinion... if they made a LMIW Footlong type sheath, and they could do too. I just sent them a detailed email with pics requesting they make bigger sheaths. Honestly, if they made a Footlong, it would be better than a LMIW... their adjustable retention strap and sheer manufacturing might, etc...

A cheap option I have on two DT12's is the OKC 12" sheath which is surprisingly OK. Synth sued lined for the blades comfort... really more than I expected for $11 or whatever on AMAZON. Pictured under the DT12's it seems made for those in my opinion. (Ontario Knife Co BSH 12 Inch Sheath)
