New Yojimbo has rust-like blade colors

My brand new Yojimbo knife arrived with some suspiciously rust-like discoloration along the machined parts of the blade, primarily in the thumb grooves, opening hole, and the ramped area on the back of the blade where the lock engages.

It doesn't look exactly like rust, but close enough that I'm a bit concerned. I heard that this brown/copper colororation is a side-effect of the manufacturing process and nothing to worry about, but I was hoping I could get a more detailed explanation here.

Hopefully the picture below shows what I'm talking about. Assuming I linked it properly, you should be able to click on it to see a larger version.

For what it's worth, the Yojimbo is a pretty slick knife. I really like the blade shape. I just wish the clip were painted to match the handle (blue in my case) and designed for deeper pocket carry.

Doesn't look too much like rust to me. See if any of it wipes off with a bit of oil and a rag. If not then it's certainly not rust, if it does then just wipe as much of it off as you can, if it's still there use a soft toothbrush and a mild polish like flitz/simichrome/baking soda and water to get the rest of it off.

The discoloration is from the laser cutting. They polish off most of it, but it wouldn't be cost-effective to get it out from the grooves and the inside of the Hole, etc.

I have the same discoloring on my Vesuvius, after two years just seems cosmetic versus "red" rust.

got this similar issue on my yojimbo, not rust definately ( i brushed it with any kind of things..)
it doesnt grow too.

bye

Thanks for the replies everyone. Now that I know it's not rust, I'm starting to view it as "character" for the blade...
