I just picked this 4" stockman up off the exchange, and would appreciate some additional information on it. As can be seen in the photos, it's a NYKC Hammer Brand knife, but has the mention of Taylor Cutlery, LLC on the side of the box. Only the clip main has tang stamps, and they are depicted below. Size and shape of the frame and blades is identical to my mid '70s Schrade Walden 881Y stockman. My guess is that it is a knife made by Schrade as an SFO for Taylor, or made up by Taylor from Schrade parts after they closed in 2004. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Larry Vickery: “Schrade made 4 patterns of these boned handled NYK knives for SMKW in 1995. NYK8s, NYK34S,NYK77S and NYK94S 1500 each delivered 500 per month Jul - Sept.”

Your knife was one of these above, the NYK8. The box that came with your knife is not correct; it is a post-2004 (bankruptcy) item of tom foolery. Following is the correct box for your knife. This image may disappear in a few days.

That is a good find Black Mamba, I would like to have found my knives in Taylor boxes. Ken.

Thanks, tongue, I really appreciate the quick info. My knife is undoubtedly the same as yours pictured, but neither is "bone handled" as in the Vickery quote. Are you sure the stag ones were from this same SFO? Did you buy yours pictured NIB in the mid '90s?

Thanks, koldgold, interesting to see that yours has a nick instead of the long pull of mine and tongueriver's.
Any explanation for that? Also, are these 1095 or 440 stainless?

Koldgold's knife is the smaller 34 version. They were all stag, not bone. I am relatively certain that they are stainless.

You should lookup some of the old threads on Imperial, Hammer and New York Knife.

Nice knife BTW. Good score.
