I am writing this posting in the hopes that there is someone out there who can give me some advise or at least a direction to straighten out and understand the Hodge Podge of laws relating to the displaying ( only ), of legally owned pre 1958 automatic knives strictly for historical purposes.

I do not want to read case historys. I have done that for 35 years. I have contacted ( specialists in this field ) legal council in neighboring states who have advised me to find someone in NYS who would be a legal authority in this field. However finding someone in NY state has proved quite difficult

Without getting to involved this would be a museum type setting, NON profit that would not be transporting any items interstate. As you know the nebulus and arbitrary laws affecting these items can by whim of individual interpretation place anyone attempting such a project in possible jeopardy.

Many states have historical codicils in fact the laws vary in some cases from municipality to municipality. In this case we are talking about NYS ( outside of NYC). As a peace officer in NY for 26 years I have about as good of understanding of these laws as any layman. However just as if I was sick I would go to a doctor in this case I am looking for legal council that understands exactly what the laws are ( if any one does).

In this case there are certain mitigating circumstances which could make such a project feasible. I would appreciate any assistance either through this forum or feel free to email me lt632ret@frontiernet.net ( Note the first character is a small L not a one for which it is sometimes mistaken. )

Thankyou for any possible help Rich Langston
