Heading for New York Wednesday, and flying in and out of JFK.

My wife and I want to try the subway to get to Manhattan. We need to get to 67th and Broadway, or as close as possible, from JFK. Can anyone help me with what trains we need to take?

Look forward to seeing your city and eating your Pizza....

You'll want to take the AirTrain from JFK to Jamaica, then take the downtown E train from Jamaica to 42nd street, then the uptown 1 train from 42nd to 66th street. Before swiping your MetroCard, ask the teller at the booth for a subway map in case you get lost. Then you can walk a bit and you'll be there.

Make sure to unclip all the knives and put them in your pocket, or carry them IWB with your shirt untucked. NYPD does not like clipped knives.

As for pizza my two favorite places are Two Boots (several locations in the lower east side, http://twoboots.com ) and John's ( midtown, http://www.johnspizzerianyc.com ). I'm sure there will be other suggestions as well. If you like rice pudding, Rice to Riches in SoHo is the place to go.

While you're in the city, don't forget to check out Paragon Sports in Union Square which has a nice selection of knives and flashlights, including a very nice collection of custom knives, and NY Ironworks in Chinatown.

Nice work gentlemen!
Don't forget MasterSmiths on the East side in the 50's.
Bring comfortable shoes, the best way to see the Big Apple is on foot.
Enjoy your visit.

... take the downtown E train ....

Isn't there a song????

Let's see...

Take the "e" train
Take the "e" train
Baby take the "e" train
Take the easy train to austin
Honey you been ridin' that train so long
Lord knows when you'll come home

You're from Ohio? And weren't "The Out Of Towners" from Ohio? You should rent that film (the 1970 Jack Lemmon original) to see what a treat you're in for. :D

If you miss the A train
You'll find you missed the
quickest way to Harlem

Never heard of MasterSmiths. Looks like I have to check that place out!

Agreed on the shoes. Hoofing it is really the best way to explore the city... you miss too much with any other mode of transport.

Thanks gentleman.

We will definitely be walking everywhere. I have only been in a cab once in my life, and that was enough. I'll be more than happy to take the subway though.

AS for pizza, I think we are going to hit John's on Bleeker St.

Have a nice Thanksgiving everyone.

Oh, you have to take a New York cab. Your NYC experience will not be complete without one. New York Cabbies are wonderful characters all of them. And they drive like.... well... let's just say you get a thrill ride with every fare.

Most NYC cabbies don't drive badly at all. They can't. Traffic is so congested, there's a physical limit on how far out of line you can get in the city. :)

I often found myself outpacing the buses on the avenues during rush hours, so I doubt the cabs would get you there at any great speed either.
