Building a Medieval Timber Framed Granary House with Hand Tools - Part I | Anglo-Saxon Woodworking

If you are interested in historic log hewing and are looking at this video for ideas here are some things to consider. The stick (log) you want to hew should be higher off the ground, about knee high to the middle of the stick. The stick to be hewn should be dogged to the yoaks supporting it so it can not move around with each axe stroke. It would be helpful, but not necessary if you have a good eye and lots of experience hewing, to strike a line on the top of the stick in a plumb orientation. Last, would be to use your felling axe to score the stick to the line. All this before you pick up your hewing axe ( side axe)
