HUMMPA...i enjoyed your pics of your Bavarian forest..I thought id show some pics of our bush where i spent most of last week...My good friends wife (in her infinite wisdom) decided she would like to try oppossum trapping as a career change..she was allocated a block in the MOTU that we affectionately call the BADLANDS...it is not for the faint hearted or the inexperienced to be in there...We were hunting in the Wairata for red stag when we recieved a message that she had not returned to camp..an official search and rescue mission was launched and we found her 3 days later, wet, cold, hungry, bleeding ,very humbled but very much alive.....we travelled light so i had my moose and sharpfinger only.....

Thank you for posting this!

Seems to be the opposite to the cold and windy bavarian woods ... like a hot and wet rainforest. Great pics! Especially the panorama pic is outstanding. How long did you spend your time there? As I have heared, the nature in New Zealand is pretty unique, because of the exposed position of NZ in the ocean. I really want to go there at any time. Thank you for sharing this. :)

I´d also like to go the Apalachian Trail or spend a couple of weeks in the Rocky Mountains in summer.

Good knife choice, for me.

Kind regards
Andi

Andi....we spent 5 days in there last week..we hunt there every roar for stag..as it is autumn here the weather is moderate, but let me assure you it gets bitterly cold here and a hunter died in this very block last year from exposure (hypothermia).......................FES

Must have been a great trip :)

Wow, there I failed... I thought it would have been some kind of tropical climatic area. But it seems to be not like this. Thank you for the lession :)

Kind regards
Andi

Beautiful country. My sister studied in Australia for a term, and she regrets that she never made the time to visit New Zealand.

Wow, I'm really glad you were able to find her, and that she was okay.

In the meantime, your pictures almost always pose exciting questions, and this post was no exception.

WHAT IS ON THIS MAN'S HEAD?!

Gots a picture from the front, somewhere? I hope.

I was going to guess that was you, but didn't want to assume. I was also thinking that might be opossum? But the tail(s) looked wrong. No wonder your good friend's wife wanted to trap 'possums-- you're quite the model.

Thanks for the further pictures, as well.

Is deer considered pest in NZ?

Incredible pics, FES! And it looks like you're doing a GREAT job with your son! I'm in the process of doing the same with my grandson...only here in Texas. Doesn't look much like NZ here!

Regards,
Ron

RINOS...deer have been a feral pest here since the 1930,s....we can hunt them 24/7,,365 days a year for free...in fact we are encouraged to shoot as many as we can....NZ produced superior heads to England and Germany which is where the introduced bloodstock came from in the 1880,s......Thanks to you all for the comments.......FES

I'm impressed by the great variety of landscapes NZ has, and being islands, a fine coastline too!

Like that Sharpfinger, is that the one you re-shod with Stag? Is it also true that NZ has no reptiles? Although I'm sure they'd thrive there. Must be a relief not to have to worry about treading on venomous snakes whilst trekking/hunting:D:eek:

WILLGOY....yes that is the reshod sharpy!!.....We dont have any snakes here or any other poisonous critters(apart from a few spiders)...but we do have reptiles per say...lizards,geckos ,tuataras etc.................................FES

Your a lucky man FES that is a absolutely gorgeous location. I can only hope I will see beauty like that in person at least once in my life. Thanks for posting those pictures and keep them coming so those of us that are unfortunate enough to live in cities can see what true beauty is.

Fes...thanks for sharing!
I've travelled my share of the world, but so far I haven't been to NZ...yet ;)
This thread makes me wonder what else I'm waiting...
