New zippo fire starter

pretty neat actually, might be just the ticket for a lot of people who are into the woods, but not as extreme as some of us here.
 
birthday candles are kind of neat too. Couple matches, a small candle and Bob's yer uncle. :)


Oh, and you have about 18 dollars to spare.
 
Hmmm, why not just grab some fatwood and a $5 magnesium bar, or cotton balls and Vaseline®. Cool if you're a Zippo® fiend or gadget lover.
 
I'm not understanding the attraction. What does this offer that a ferro rod and jute doesn't?

i'll stick with my ferro rod, looks neat but when anything can happen I know I can get a fire going with a ferro rod every time and lasts a hell of alot longer then that would.

The average Joe who might not know about Ferro rods and jute would probably pick one of these up and be able to use it without instruction.....;):thumbup:
 
I used a mag bar as a kid without instruction, I think the main selling point in this case is that the tinder is prepared for the user.
 
Personally I like it. It seems like a more robust version of the sparklite and it has a storage compartment built in for tender. I don't see it replacing ferro rods but I think it will be a strong competitor with the sparklite. Of all the firestarting kits that are comercially available I think this would be the one I'd buy for my wife or son as a beginner kit. I think it's pretty intuitive and it seems to be pretty rugged so no worries about dropping or breaking it.

Most people are more apt to carry something that is just a grab and go pre-packaged deal. I also think it is nice to see new items coming out besides way over priced clothing.

By the way I do carry a firesteel when out in the woods while wearing my $18 a pair Smartwools :o .
