I received my new ZT 0560 today. Size and weight are great. Very light and it is very comfortable in hand. I found that it opens smoothly with little effort using the flipper. How ever I cant get it to open now matter how hard I try using the thumb stud(Im right handed). I also tried using the left side thumb stud and cant get it to open. I also found when I release the frame lock it makes a scrapping sound and feels rough. Normal?

Thanks Mario...

I believe those are blade stops and not thumb studs to begain with......that maybe ur problem. but i maybe wrong

You're probably pressing down on the locking frame with your fingers while trying to open it with thumbstuds. Hold the handle a little higher up above the locking portion and you should be good.

Thanks 9blades. Good video. Ill try it that way. Like i said using the flipper is easy, but I would like to get the hang of the stud. As far as it feeling a bit rough closing. Does it have to just break in a little?

I don't own one (played with them a good deal though) so I couldn't really say:(

ummm i just thought they were blade stops....i have also tryed using the studs with no luck on mine, just thought they werent designed to be used. as in knife was flipper only ill need to look ito that

They aren't thumb studs, they are blade stops. The knife was not designed for you to use them. I believe KAI (at least Thomas) was on record stating they wished they would have done a internal stop pin.

Be careful that when you are trying to release the lock that you are pushing it straight sideways and not down and sideways. If you press hard enough down on the lock bar you will bend it into the frame and it will scrape against it when closing.

That's kinda what happened to me here:

Positivelymaybe, any luck with the 0560? I just picked one up from a forum member (yesterday actually) and its takes a little getting used to. I was having the same issues at first but soon realized I can open and close the 0560 with the left hand. I can open and close it with either hand now albeit still easier with the left hand. The grinding noise maybe you are not fully disengaging the lock bar before closing the blade, at least that was what I was doing. I can even use the "thumb stud" with either hand, just keep the fingers off the lock bar. With the right hand what works for me is to ave your pointer finger at the top of the ti just behind the pivot and the remaining fingers off the lock bar. I'm sure by now you have figured this out anyways but just in case

They are indeed thumb studs, Hinderer thumb studs. :) And they work fine if you have the proper technique. Remember, it's a manual knife. You have to learn how to use it properly to get the most out of it.

You might be gripping the knife in such a way that you are pressing the lock into the blade. Increasing the overall resistance. Te harder you grip, the less you will be able to open it. Does no one read anymore?

The Zero Tolerance 560 knife is a Rick Hinderer design that was announced at the 2011 Blade Show. The 0560 features a premium stonewashed Elmax blade with a plain edge and ambidextrous thumb stud. The handle has a 3D machined 6AL4V titanium frame-lock and a G-10 front handle scale. Includes 4-way reversible pocket clip.

Oh, I know what those are ;) and I could not agree more that its all in the technique. I'm a righty and I can open and close with the left hand effortlessly yet with the right hand I have to make sure I'm not on the lock bar.
