I just got my ZT 0566 FINALLY!!! (I've been on the pre-order list, like many of you, for 6 months or more.)

Turns out, the thumbstuds are useless--in order to loosen the knife enough to get them to be useable, the blade is rubbing the edge of the knife. With the blade centered, the knife is impossible to open except with the flipper.

Any ideas?
It almost appears the geometry/angles/placement is off--they act more like blade-stops than thumbstuds (which is what ZT claims the studs are for on their non-assisted flippers).

My understanding was these were also blade stops, not true thumbstuds. I don't have a suggestion for you - I only use the flipper.

Yeah, in the manual, it says the assisted ZT has thumbstuds, but yeah, I think these are unusable. Too bad, I really like the knife...just don't know if I can keep it since I'm not a flipper person (though I like having that option). Thanks. :(

Yep...flip it!

My issue OTOH is that I had to send mine back to the dealer. I tried to switch the clip to lefty tip up carry, and the holes were too big for the screw to tighten down. Hope they aren't all like this.

I love the knife as a flipper, not a real big fan of thumb studs. But if you need to use it from thumb studs, I tried them on my 566 and if you push on the like you would open a blur then they work much better than trying to open from under the stud. Or maybe you just need to work your knife in for a little while to loosen everything up

Like others have said, it wasn't meant to be opened with the "thumbstuds" they're actually stops for the flipper action. The flip action on my 0561 is butter smooth so I assume the 0566 is also (ball bearings in it also I believe???). If you don't like flippers, I'd return it because you're not going to be happy with using the flipper stops as thumbstuds.
Best of luck.

First off, mine is de assisted, and it's smooth without play. I have no problems opening mine with the studs, it just takes practice. As said above, you need to push foreword as with the Blur, and it will fire with authority.

Thumbstuds and bladestops both. Depends on your manual dexterity.

You actually read the "manual"?

I recently picked up a 566. I could not open it with the thumb studs until I deassisted the knife. I like it better without assisted opening anyway. I can flip it open with the thumb studs or the flipper. With the flipper I need to use a little wrist action, but I still like it that way.

Me three, after deassisting, I can flick with thumb or forefinger very easy, and a small flip of the wrist opens it with the flipper.
TerryM, no bearings in the 0566, good'ol washers.
