New ZT0350. Spine whack failure?

Hey guys. So I have a ZT0551 and I love it. Today I bought a ZT0350. Got it from Bass pro. Serial number is 49xxx. I've seen these spine wack tests. Some of the ZT knives in the videos fail. This is confusing. Was it the early ones or what? I have taken both of mine and spine whacked both of them over and over. They are rock solid. No failures. Somebody school me on all this. I freaking love this 0350 and i want to have strong confidence in this knife and daily carry it.

This is one of ZT's earliest models that's still in production, a mainstay of their product line for years despite their overall shift to smaller, lighter knives. It's rock solid. Enjoy it in good health.:)

All you need really is hand pressure on the spine. Watch the lockbar and see if it moves while you are doing it. If it doesn't fail you will be good to go for about 99.9% of the tasks that knife was designed for. If it makes you feel better just do a few light, but firm whacks to ease your mind.
After that, don't do it again!! The hand pressure test will be more than enough.
The more you "test" lockbar strength the more you compromise it. You go from testing to abuse, and it will eventually fail.

If it didn't fail, what's the concern? o_O Stop spine whacking your knives.

Yeah, no kidding. Your knife isn't a hammer, a splitting wedge, or a pry bar. Use it like an edged tool and think of the lockup as a safety device ONLY. Just a backup in case you have a brain fart while using the knife. Never use the knife for anything but a cutting tool (I know... I know... someone will chime in with emergency circumstances being an exception, or remembering when they cut themselves out of a downed aircraft) and you will be fine. If it locks up tight now, don't oil the lock bar to blade surface connection (unless it is really sticky) and you will be fine.

I cannot imagine what cutting chores you have in mind for your EDC that would make you doubt that particular model of ZT.

Um ok..so no I wasnt wondering why mine doesnt fail. I think you missed the point. Why are a bunch of them failing. Some don't others do. Like, why is that? Is it older ones vs new ones? Was there a known problem that they fixed? These are my questions. **I should have put in some qualifiers to avoid the, why would you even do this?/It doesn't matter/Why would you even care/Well you should run it over with a car and see what happens, type responses.

NorthernSouthpaw and Midnightflyer. Thank you. So yeah I did put pressure on it like that. It's rock solid so I guess whatever the mystery problem that is happening with all these ZT knives is not going on with mine. Gotcha. Yeah I wasnt seriously smacking it but just light strikes on padded surface. Nothing.

It's some, not a bunch. Lemons exist and are inevitable in any mass produced product.

Yeah, I mean that's true. I dont know how many of this model is out there but it's a large large number. There seems to be a lot of people who own and love them.

You are obviously not doing it hard enough. For true spine whacking, get in your car and drive at least 32mph, then smack the spine against something like a signpost, light pole or some such item and see how it holds up.

Is it just me who finds this guy funny as hell...!?!? :p:p:p:p:p I was legitimately waiting for his response to this post.

OP maybe your not whacking it like in the videos. Try harder and you will succeed. Just make sure your not wearing gloves it affects the aerodynamic of the whack.

Couldn't help myself. At the end of the day all of these knives are production knives. Meaning they are not going to be Exactly the same. Id just be stoked I got one that passed my spine tap on something padded test. You could always send it to Cold Steel. Im sure they'd be glad to make another Cold Steel VS video. It would be the first one to pass man!! That would be exciting.

I don't want the knife they put through those weighted super hard spine whacks then those super hard over strikes. Lol There you go there's your knife! Have a good day lol Oh we also hung 300 lbs off the handle. Don't mind those bulges in the handle, it will be fine.
