I got my first RC Cutlery knife yesterday - a black Izula. I had some cordage that I made out of artificial sinew (double reverse weave) sitting around and decided to give the knife a quick (and temporary) wrap with that to see how it looks and feels. It actually feels pretty good, though not as plush as a paracord wrap.

My boys put the knife through its first paces this morning and they both love it. Below is a picture of the Izula with a stick that my 8 year old carved into a point (still figuring this out, so I hope the picture uploads properly). The Izula had no trouble taking off the knots and at the same time delicately removed the outer bark like it was slicing through butter. It truly is a sweet blade. Thank you RAT Cutlery.

Your son has some pretty decent carving skills for an 8 year old. It's good to see some young kids who know how to handle a knife properly. Congrats on the Izula, it really is one hell of a knife!

Thanks guys. I have a couple Frost knives for my boys, but the Izula looks so good in their little hands. Both are getting one for Christmas! When my girls get a little older I'll get them each a pink Izula. I'm glad I have an understanding wife.

Did you weave the sinew first, before wrapping the handle? Or did it come that way? I've got real and artificial stuff I've used for various projects over the years, but I've never seen it like that.

Interesting look.

I wove the cordage before wrapping the handle. I started with normal weight (70 pound) artificial sinew, separated it into thinner strands and wove a roughly 10 foot cord, using a reverse wrap. I then double wrapped it to end up with around five feet of cord.

I didn't make the cordage with the Izula in mind, but had it sitting around when the knife arrived, so gave it a quick wrap. I've since re-wrapped the Izula with paracord and may try the artificial sinew cordage on a bow drill. I'm interested to see how it will hold-up under that use.

Very good, thank you for the information.

And lest I get accused of hijacking the thread, nice Izula you had it wrapped around :)

I too also got my first RAT, on 12/23/09, from New Graham. It's a DT Izula. I immediately wrapped it with tan 550 cord, and stuck it in my jeans pocket. Great little knife.
