Tips and generalizations:
1. Most serious competitive throwers are using knives in the 13-15 inch range and 12-16 ounces in weight.
2. Practice the same environment you plan to do serious throwing in. If hunting, use animal targets in outdoor situations. If competition, use competition targets. It may be easier to hit the big targets but it is quite an adjustment to the real environment.
3. get the basics down first. Then practice them until you can execute blindfolded in the dark your basic throw. Then practice some more.
4. You do not need to spend a lot of money. Try any and every knife you can.
5. Best of all, find an experience thrower and examine their methods and grill them with questions. This will cut months off your learning curve!!!!
6. Always go back to basics when all else fails. Use whatever produces the best result for you no matter what the "guru books" say. Try everything once.
