Reading the threads is there a Busse and then a Combat Busse? People post up about wanting a combat version because its cheaper?

As a Busse newb any and all info about his knives and models and what it all means would be great! Thanks!

Generally, most Busse Combat knives are released for pre-order as 'Limited Edition' or 'Combat Grade'.

Limited Editions are generally serial numbered, satin finished blades that are released before the Combat Grade (but not always, sometimes all they release is the LE).

Combat Grade is always coated to keep the cost of production down, as satin finishing adds significant cost to the knives. Sometimes there are also other differences between the two models, such as thickness or type of grind.

It can be a bit confusing at first but after you hang around for awhile you will catch on fast. If you have any specific questions feel free to email me at garth@bussecombat.com and I will help you out.

Wow, thanks!

I like the look of your satin blades. Is it easy or something you should/can do to remove the coating and make a combat grade into a satin finish?

What is the heaviest Busse that you can buy? Not any one offs, but something that might show up in the exchange. Would it be the MOAB?

Thanks in advance!

MOAB or Mother of all Busses would be the biggest one you can buy. They are up there in price but well worth it  There is also the Scrap Yard 1311 which is a big chopper also if you're not wanting to dive into a MOAB right now. Rob Stanley recently posted up some comparisons here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1077989-1311-amp-MOAB-Comparison :) As for making a combat grade a satin finish, that may be a little tricky. Some have had great luck on stripping their knives and others get more of a rough finish. It's hit or miss if I'm remembering correctly. Search for strippers or stripping and some threads will come up with tips on removing the coating and such. Welcome to the madness.

There is an alternative if you find something on the exchange as Garth stated send him a message about a "SPA" Treatment....Welcome and if you decide MOAB Grab it and cut up the credit card....:D

The Moab would be the heaviest blade. Changing a knife from coated to satin is more than just removing the coating. A coated blade has a lot less cleanup done to the steel prior to heat treating. We do make quite a few cg blades into satin finished blades but it is time consuming. Price depends on the blade. Some knives it is just not an option. If you have a specific blade in mind just email me and we can further discuss all of your options.

You can specify when you order a knife to get it with the competition finish which has no coating. The cost is the same.

Is the reason for this because it is significantly more difficult to remove hardened steel vs. pre-heat treated steel?
