Hello all.

I have migrated here from one of the other knife manufacturer threads which I collect.

I started looking at Busse knives and, well..............OMG

I don't have one ...YET!!!

But I will just as soon as I have finished doing my homework.

I don't much like the coated blades, I need to see the steel in all it's glory :D

So can someone please explain the difference between Double Cut and Satin finish. As far as I can tell they are both uncoated. Is the satin finish just duller than double cut or am I missing something???

Also, does the blade thickness vary between satin and double cut?

Picture comparisons would be great if possible.

Thank you in advance.

No worries. A ton of information is available.

Satin is exactly what you think it is -- a highly polished blade (but not taken all the way to a mirror polish).

Double Cut is a more matte finish. It's accomplished in two stages, thus the jargon "Double Cut." I don't know all the details, but the last stage is a form of bead blasting. The matte finish is very attractive -- it is the naked steel 'roughened' at a very small scale.

Both Satin and Double Cut can be bought in various thicknesses, although Mr. Busse prefers thicker knives (0.14" is considered a 'thin' Busse knife ... most are 0.20" and thicker).

Here's a useful pic:

The upper knives are Double Cut, the lower ones are Satin.

Also thanks for the pictures they are very helpful, and nice knives while I'm at it.

Since you Hogs seem to like the oldies, here's another double cut blast from the past.
