Please excuse my lack of knowledge on this....but I just got a Benchmade Griptilian and the knife itself looks as though it is sharpened very unevenly on each side of the blade. (sorry I dont know the term) I hope these pictures help with my explanation. Is this something I have to live with or should I contact Benchmade?

Unfortunatly this is something that happens all to often. Not just from Benchmade but from numerous manufcturers. It is annoying to me but I reprofile all of my blade and sharpen the when I get them any way it just takes longer the more messed up the grind it but I just deal with it.

If the uneven grind is not really affecting the performance then I say keep it or correct the grind yourself. If it bothers you then contact them I wold think they would take care of you.

Sig,
As rack as said this happens all too often. Dont worry about the grind line, start using the heck outta that fine Grip.

I have had a lot of production knives like that. I just use them, After I sharpen it A bit It will even out more.

Production blades under $150 all suffer from uneven blade grinds. It is largely aesthetic and affects performance very little. You also have to be pretty nearsighted to notice it - at least I am.

Good call on your part, you've learned something about knives most users don't even think about. An even, matching grind line, especially when seen on edge or from the back, is an indication of a very high standard of fit and finish - or, you just got real lucky.

Next time you find a table of knives to look through, you'll notice how many don't come very close, even in the so-called expensive lines. You practically have to pay custom prices to get good grind lines, and even then, it may not be a priority with that maker.

Don't expect matched lines very often in blades bought for pocket money, and you'll appreciate the few you do run across in your life.

Thanks for all the replies guys...upon each passing day I take in a little more from this great place.

It is very common.. But I find benchmade and spyderco to have the best QC in that department..,
I always deal with it. And sharpen it out over a couple sessions..

I would add Kershaw to that list, TC. I just checked a bunch of mine and they are near perfect.
