Hello all.I'd like to try my hand at hollow grinding some blades for a tactical style folder. The blades will be approx. 1" wide, give or take.Is a 10" contact wheel too big for that size blade? The reason I ask is this.I'm thinking of getting a 2x72 grinder.I know,I know everyone will say go for the KMG.But money is a serious issue, and I only plan on doing this as a hobby for myself.I was looking at,what else, the Grizzly. But I have read that the motor body can get in the way with the 8" wheel, especially since I'm left handed.I would get the optional 10" wheel, but would that be too big for my purposes?Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.Thanks.

Thank Rob Frink, who wrote it, and the guy who put it up on that page, Butch! YW, though, for my part as messenger! :)

the calculating tool is very handy for automatic grinders, However, for the hand grinder, not very accurate. If you hold the balde just 1 degree from horizontal, it changes every thing, In hand grinding, we use all manner of angles, depth, varring pressure and blending. As I have said before on another thread, Dont' let the contact wheel rule your grind. Be the master of the wheel. Your the Maker. Put another way. A carpenter, who weighs 190 Lbs, Is 6.2 tall, swinging a 16 oz hammer, hitting a 10 penny nail will drive it how far with every hit? The answer, Who cares, get to work, It will come to you. :) Mike
