Need recommendations on a very strong drill bit. I finally got a forge and had my first run at hardening and tempering some annealed 1095 flats I had shaped. It seems that the steel did harden... because not even the drill bits I bought that say for “hardens steel will touch this thing in my drill press. Thoughts and recommendations very much appreciated.

Welcome! I am going to bet that this would be a better question for the maker section of the forums. :)

My 2 cents would be, that its much easier to drill holes before hardening. Can you anneal the section you need drilled? If you cant anneal it and have to get a hole drilled, you will need a carbide drill bit specifically designed for hardened steel. You will want a very short carbide bit and will probably need cutting oil with it to. Good luck!
