Hi guys & gals of this sight. Im a newbie to this sight & im also a newbie of collecting knives. Dont have many nice ones yet. I recently purchased the ZT301 Ranger green just last week & cant put it down yet. Im catching myself making up stupid tasks just so i can get the opportunity to play with my knife. My other knives are Kershaw Blur Kershaw Clash Gerber Bears Grilles small survival folder & another Gerber not sure of its name has hole for pointing finger just behind the blade. Anyways to more experienced people hope to pick your brains find out what peoples favorite knives knive brands & why they like them so. As you can tell i really like Kershaw knives seem like very solidly built knifes. I am open to opinions like i said this year truly popped my knife collecting chery. I was always buying the $5 special at different gas stations being oblivious to the types & quality of the different knives.well ill quit ranting just wanted to say hi & thanks for letting me join this awesome sight! To people wandering what got me into knives i had a friend take me to Smokey Mountain Knife Works which is coolest store ever! I felt like a kid in a candy store. Sad thing is ive lived in Tenn. Whole life & never realized i lived to such neat store. To anyone who ever goes on vacation to Pigeon Forge Gatlinburge area you have to check this store out. It took me over 3 hours to go through the whole store before being about $300 lighter than when i got there! No complaints had fun did my 2 favorite activities other than being with my daughter & that was looking at knives then going to check out all the awesome hot rods at the Rod Run they had in Pigeon Forge. Like i said thanks for letting me join. If anyone has questions feel free to holler probably not most educated on knives but i now feel like a sponge trying to soak in all the interesting info on the diff. Knives!

I am envious of you living so close to knife mecca! I have taken vacations to SMKW more than a few times over the years, awesome place to spend some time and money. Welcome aboard, if you are eager to learn more about this hobby of ours then you have found the right place, information abounds.

Thanks for the hi's. But yeah cant believe i live so close to such cool place as SMKW & have just recently found out about it! After my mom passed away from cancer few weeks ago i had alot of extra time on my hands cause i had been taking care of her the last few years! Thats what got me into collecting knives. She actually had 2 separate Coke cola knives from 1984 worlds exposition in New Orleans i thought they were cool conversation pieces & as i started looking them up i realized i really liked knives. I do feel guilty now that i know when i want a new toy for my collection i can drive about an hour away & in close proximity theres 4 floors of almost any knife you can dream of at SMKW but down street is Bass Pro Shop & thats not including all different stores in Knoxville. To people like me who enjoy hot rods & knives usually around 3rd weekend in Sept. Pigeon Forge holds Shades of Past & Grand Rod Run to anyone whos never been to show like that its awesome. Oh and if you have Children got Dollywood. Thanks again guys for being friendly. Whats everyone's pick between Kershaw Benchmade & Spyderco's cause im currently looking for my next toy. If anyone has good suggestion let me know. Already have 3 Kershaws so should i stay in that family or try different brand? If so what do you all like about your pick?

G'day Rocky and welcome to the forum and to knife collecting. There is no right and wrong unless you are a serious investor. Buy the knives that you like and if you enjoy them them you have achieved something good. Re the brands you mention above - they all have their fans. Me personally, I'm not a big fan of current Kershaws but others will have different views. I like most of the US and Japan made Spydercos. The Delica or Endura are really good starting points. I have enjoyed most of the Benchmades I have owned - the Griptilian or the Mini Griptilian are good places to start.

I know this is a very stupid question but im not only a newbie to this sight but also pretty much a newbie to the wonderful world of computers. I currently have to visit this sight on my phone which is a Motorola Droid Razr & i also have a laptop but have no idea what my daughter did to laptop but its pretty much dead! Now to my Question like on some threads i see were people are posting picks of there knives & stuff. I was also wanting to post some picks of mine which my collection is very small but i just dont have the computer savvy to get the picks loaded to the sight. I dont know if its because my only internet access is on my cell but i really dont think thats the case. So if anyone out there could possibly give me the idiots guide of putting pictures on this sight it would greatly be appreciated! Like i said sorry for such a kindergarten style question but id like to post some picks & even possibly put one in for my profile picture?

If you like knives, visiting Smoky Mountain Knife Works (SMKW) for the first time is a memorable experience. You start with them and then you begin to branch out in terms of being comfortable making choices from on line retailers. At SMKW, you get to handle whatever you are interested in.

I used to live in Knoxville and trips to SMKW, Gatlinburg, Sevierville, and Pigeon Forge were pretty convenient. You're in Merr-ville. Guess you usually hit the Smoky Mountains NP at the Townsend entrance.

Welcome RT. I hope in time you end up enjoying this place at least as much as I do.

Hello,

I'm in middle Tennnessee near Clarksville. I visit the mountains at least once a year. Last year the wife and I climbed to the Mt. LeConte lodge and stayed the night. It's beautiful there.

I'm pretty new to knives and this site too. I collect mostly Benchmades. I have 10. I'm starting to get into Kershaws now. I have the new Kershaw Cryo on pre-order. I'm left handed so it's hard to find a knife I can clip on that side.

Again, welcome and hope to see you around on here.
