Went for a hike today with my HI Khukuris hoping there would be some fallen trees on the trail so I could see how well they chopped. Trees in the "wetcoast" rainforests are usually softwood so I was lucky to find this wet, deciduous hardwood variety laying across the trail.

It took my 16.5 " WWII about 12 minutes to chop through it.

Here is a photo of my first three HI Khukuris from today's hike and chop. I named them from the top: Athos,Porthos and Aramis!

THANKS YANGDU !!!!

Welcome, Monte.

Love the WWIIs, myself. Must have 8 or so, both lengths, lots of different handle materials.

Did you get a chance to try out the M43s? I found that it takes a little while to get used to their balance.

I used the Samsher to trim some 3" dia. branches...man, can these knives chop! I didn't try the M43. After about a half hour of happy branch trimming, my hand started to sting:

I think with the smooth handle on the M43, this won't happen. I'll try the M43 next time.
Both knives remained incredibly sharp.

I am very happy with my new knives.

Remember, blister are nature's way of telling us we don't spend enough time chopping. I try to keep the raised ring between my pinky and ring finger. Usually wanders when i get a little tired. A half hour of steady chopping is a long time.
Thanks for the correction on the model identification. Should have noticed the ring on the samsher.

Great job and pictures, thank you

Welcome, you've got a real nice collection of blades there. Aardvark's advice is good, I found chopping comfort to improve a lot when I started putting the ring between my ring and pinky fingers. It feels a little strange at first but becomes comfortable very quick.

Very nice pics. The first pic is classic...blurry background with fresh khuk in front. Thanks.

Thank you everyone for the nice comments especially Yangdu for bringing in these knives.

Special thanks to my wife for understanding my new Khukuri addiction. She took the photos....but not before she yelled at me," YOU BOUGHT THREE OF THEM????!!!!"
I quickly told her that one was for me and the other were presents for two very good friends. (me,myself and I) :D :D

Cheers!

Monte

Monte, if you search the achives, you will see a piece of advice repeated over and over again: "Never let you wife see your whole collection at the same time." Results are often fatal.

welcome..a good start on a new addiction(one is too many and one of each still isnt enough):D

THanks nwallis! :) :)
I'm curious...what language is that?

Now you did it Monte! You cut a tree without getting all of the federal, state, local, tribal, hippie, spotted owl permits.

(Nice pics though! :) )

Yeah...we have them tree hugger types of permits here in BC, Canada too. :D

However, the tree was already down from a recent windstorm and lay across the busy "Baden Powell Trail". I very much respect the environment and would never cut a living tree for $hits and giggles. :)

Peace

Nwallis, Are you from New Zealand? Maori?

Steve

I'm actualy an ex-pat pom ,been out here for thirty-odd years.Maori is New Zealands second ''official'' language, and as such, has equal legal status with
english(it's a legal requirement that it is taught in school to the kids !) makes makes our indigenous folk feel appreciated, but it would be a huge mistake to learn maori instead of english.Top marks Steve!
