i recently purchased a Camillus 883 in mint looking condition. tang: Camillus/883/USA; and on reverse Sword Brand. a post on 05/24/06 by mick57 on an identical knife, would put mine about 1990 (handle pins not visible).
another older post by camco describes the sword brand as Camillus' best.
i have 3 questions that i cannot find with searches. 1) is there a Camillus 883 non sword brand, or are sword brand pattern numbers unique ? 2) some knives have sword brand as etch but not tang stamp and others have tang stamp and no etch. what is the significance of this difference ? 3) why are they the best of Camillus ? only handle differences, or steel, or time spent on fit and finish ?
thanks; the answers will help me proceed with a beginning Camillus collection.
