Newbie getting started with waterstones...

I want to make sure I'm getting started off on the right track. I have a DMT D8C 325, Norton 1000/4000 and a 4 sided leather strop with black, white and green compounds. Other than practice, is there anything else I need to put hair popping edges on my Mora Frost and Ahti Tikka. I've been doing some carving and whittling and I prefer scandi knives to others I've used. Thanks.
