I keep seeing the use of the term "stropping" (sp) around on this site, sorry as I realize this is probably a pretty ignorant question, but I was just wondering what that term reffered to exactly.
usually when I sharpen my blades my last step is to make some sweeping passes on a leather belt. I dont remember where I learned this but it seems to really fine tune an edge, I susspect this is something to do with this term.

Does anybody have any suggestions on the best way to sharpen a knife, or the "proper" way even? I use a diamond stone (if my edge is really been used)to true back up, a ceramic to polish and then fine tune with the belt. I dont remember any one ever telling me how to do this Im just winging it:D Anyway if anyone has a really good method please share it here, to me sharp is good sharper is better, but Im really looking for that scary, accident prone, finger shudder sharp. The kind of edge you go to test on some arm hair and the folicles just jump from your skin to thier death from fear:p

HAHA thanks for any help!!!!!
