Hello...

I purchased my first 'nice' knife a few months ago here on bladeforums (an emerson HK folder), I am very pleased with the knife, and have been using it as my 'daily utility' knife, of sorts - going on 5 months now. The blade seems to have become slightly dull, and needs to be sharpened, after slicing apart an old mattress over the weekend, but I am clueless on the process... prior to the emerson I have had a variety of swiss-army type knives, which I used a simple v-shaped sharpener on - the emerson is black, and when I tried this tool on it the v was the wrong shape, and it harmed the finish of the blade, obviously something I would like to avoid - so... I guess my question is:

What do I need to buy to properly care for this knife? Where can I read up on the process for properly sharpening the blade? I am sure I could half-ass the procedure, but I would prefer to do it correctly.

:o

yep go to the EKI site/follow there instructions.

though i love my sharpmaker i dont like them for CG (chisel grind) blades, i much prefer either a flat benchstone or a diamond rod (like EKI recommends IIRC) then strop them w/a steel or a piece of cardboard (like EKI says).
