Ok, here's my problem. I'm an extreme noob in the knife sharpening arena. I recently purchased a Sharpmaker and I am fairly proficient with it, good results with my Spyderco knives. However, I'm not having any luck with my SOG Autoclip. It has a tanto blade I believe it's called, just one side has an angle while the other side is flat. I believe the angle is wrong and that's why it's not getting real sharp. It is nowhere near the same sharpness as my regular knives are.

The SOG is a solid knife, it was my EDC until I got into Spydercos. I'd like to bring it back to life if possible.

Tilt the Sharpmaker by putting something under one side of the base until the rod matches the angle of the grind, work the other side flat to the rod as necessary.

You really should regrind to 15 degrees (local sharpening store if you cant do it) then you can use a Sharpmaker or make your own 15 degree angle holes on a Smiths' etc., like i did to save money.

If you have a bevel on one side and the other side is flat, I would guess that it is a chisel grind (from your description).

You will find that the bevel side is fairly obtuse in angle. You would need to sharpen at the steep angle on the bevel side to raise a burr on the flat side. Then you remove the burr by working the flat side.

If you are trying to sharpen both sides on a chisel grind, then you will have a long way to go to get a bevel on both sides.
