just started doing some research on good quality pocket knives this week, use a folder pocket knife daily for work and always have one clipped to my pocket. Picked up the kershaw blur tiger stripe at my local cabelas and liked it so much i ordered a kershaw blur with the stonewash s30v blade. Have had a few kershaw knives over the years and the blur seems to feel great in the hand and well made. My weak point is sharpening, always want to buy high quality knives but end up using a carbide countertop type sharpener which does ok, but nothing like the factory edge (I'm horrible with a stone and keeping a consistent angle). Buddy of mine recommended the lansky 5 stone sharpener, bought a gatco sharpening system (basically same as lanky) and wow this setup is fantastic! Purchased a few additional sharpening hones for it and the ultimate finishing hone puts a razor sharp edge on the knife that will shave hair and slice paper like butter! Wish i would have found this sharpening system years ago. Planning to buy a spyderco para military g10 hopefully soon

Thanks for your post, i am in the same position , I have purchased a few kershaws and have recently purchased a spyderco tenacious & cara, cold steel american lawman. I am looking to buy the blur soon. I too have used a carbide /benchmade and it has made my kershaws dull.. I am looking for a sharpener for my better quality knives. Based on the results you got with the Gatco, i will buy the Gatco and try it on my better knives. Will post my results soon . Thx

Welcome, and I'm glad you have a sharpening system you're comfortable with. I think it gives you more confidence in buying higher end knives.

I think the stone washed S30V Blur was my second "high end" knife (the Leek was my first). I, too, used a Lansky system to sharpen it and it's razor sharp! Good choice!

Welcome to BF! You're off to a good start with those Blurs, great knives.

About sharpening, get a couple of good quality stones (I'm fojd of Spyderco's ceramic stones) and practice on cheap knives until you learn to sharpen freehand. You'll never give those sharpening jigs a second look after you get the hang of it.

Have recently upgraded my collection a bit. Purchased an edge pro about a month ago and also a shapton 4k stone with all the edge pro stones. Also have acquired a few more knives-paramilitary 2 with black handles and s30v stonewashed blade, paramilitary 2 with digi cam handles and s30v stonewashed blade, and benchmade 943. This can be addicting lol

One step ahead of u, bought a strop for use on the edge pro a few weeks ago, along with 1 micron diamond spray. Amazing how much sharper the strop with diamond spray can make the edge. Hit my para military with the strop about every other day and keeps it nice and razor sharp
