New to this forum, seeing a lot of great info,I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on a BK7 for Camping ,Hiking and what not.Question is what tool do you guys use for adding a choil to the blade ? I'm also planning on stripping the finish and adding a forced patina.Any info would be great. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to Bladeforums!

I did this using a Dremel sanding drum.

Go slow and just be sure to keep the steel cool so you don't destroy the heat treat.

Lots of great modification info over on the Becker subforum. Just do a search and you'll find more than you want to read.

7 is great knife. Think youll throughly enjoy it.

Would use a dremel/grinder/file for choil. Haven't modded a BK yet except for stripping. Cannot recommend "citristrip" enough. An $8 bottle will last you a lifetime more than likely if just using for knives, takes off paint with ease, fast, safe.

You'll love the 7 for an all arounder...
Be warned...it won't be your last Becker.
Pop in to the Becker sub and check it out!

I use Jasco only because, at the time, I decided to try it first and it's lasted forever...

Great choice on the 7, I was going to strip and deramp mine but I realized after using it... a lot... I didn't need to change it. Only thing I did was smooth the coating with I think 320 grit pad then 0000 steel wool...

I also rounded off that kinda square hump at the top of the swedge

Where do I go to see the Becker sub forum couldn't find it,Nice scales on the 7 where did you get those.

Airbourne82, Look right below your post and click on Manufacturer's Forums and then scroll down to Becker Knife and Tool.

There is plenty of information in the sub forum.

Sorry, missed this!
They are Ka-Bar factory micarta. Rubbed down with mineral oil and lightly sanded with a 300something grit sanding sponge.
