Very, very modest collection. Lol.

I am new here guys, Ive been lurking for a few weeks. Recently bought a Black Ka-Bar USMC w/ Kydex Sheath for myself as a Christmas present thinking I could use it when the summertime comes. I wanted to go on my first backpacking trip with a friend. I live in Toronto, so its a pretty big city and we have to go pretty far out to experience nature.

Then I realized the USMC was good, but it didnt serve my purposes too well. (Plus Ive always really liked knives) So I have recently purchased a BK-2 that I am waiting to arrive to my house, and as well a BK-11 that I just got in the mail today. I figured out a simple way to do a bulky handle wrap on the BK-11, because I found the standard "skinny" method feels a little unsubstantial for my liking. Let me know what you think

You've probably seen a million BK-11's and USMC's so thanks for watching, folks!

Also a question to all: Im not quite sure I like the rough black coating on the BK-11 and I am thinking of stripping it and either adding a polish or a patina. My question is: What have you guys done with your BK11's or IZULA's? Does the rough black coating affect the cutting effectiveness/ or does it help prevent rusting at all?

The new rough coating will smooth out with use. Or you can strip it as long as you get a patina going it wont be hard to maintain. Rust isnt a huge issue with them how ever it can happen.

Looks like a great start to me. Be warned though, this place has a tendency to increase that collection, rapidly! Welcome to Beckeropolis.

Welcome to the forums. Some sweet blades indeed.

We all started somewhere. I think the black F/U was my second Ka-Bar right after I bought a warthog. I made the mistake of buying a serrated blade so I sold it a couple years ago. Still have the warthog and a bunch of others to go with it, including the BK2. Still need some more though. Yer gonna want a BK9 next. All hail the king!

Welcome to the forum. If you follow the usual pattern, your collection will soon not be modest. Nothing wrong with a modest collection anyway. Nice wrap on the handle, BTW.

Alright thanks, Ill probably leave it and see how smooth it gets after a while. Patinas are darn cool though... Pretty much the reason I wanted to get a BK-2- to customize the hell out of it :) How often do you need to re-apply the patina? Does it depend how much you're using the knife/how much "patina" is being rubbed off?

Already on my wishlist on ebay haha

Nice wrap on the handle, BTW.

Thanks, Im still trying to figure out the best technique for a katana wrap

And to everyone saying welcome to the addiction.. first I shall say thanks! But that I am very familiar with "addictions" (not in the sense you would think), but I got with the idea of breeding ball pythons a few years back and now let me tell you, when you're housing 10-20 snakes and feeding them once a week, THAT drains your pockets. Needless to say, I had to get out of that business. Second, Im glad I found a new hobby that will only really have me buying a knife maybe every two months, which isnt so bad. Also, Im just starting to realize how much I've always loved the outdoors so I decided that this summer will be my first backpacking experience, where I will be going for 5 days only into a giant provincial park in Canada, surviving with the absolute bare minimum.

Here is a video that some of you may have seen, and hopefully maybe if you havent seen it, it will be a cool video to watch for sure! The video is about Heimo Korth, the only person legally living in alaska, above the antarctic line. 200 Miles around him is all declared national parks and the people who were grandfathered eventually couldn't stand the survivalist lifestyle and moved away. Heimo and his wife are now the only two people living up there, and the only communication he has is with the army, in case of emergency. It was really interesting for me to watch, so hopefully you guys enjoy it too.

Welcome aboard and great way to start with some pics, we're a visual crowd here. If there's no pics it didn't happen!

Mattchibi... That video of Korth's life in Alaska is fascinating. A very hard life, a place like that is almost like living on another planet. My little ranch in the mountains of NW Arizona is 35 miles from the nearest town and 8 miles off the paved road with many miles of Juniper forest all around. It's very very peaceful and serene, but I can't even imagine though what his world is like! Truly inspiring to see his story.

Hey Matt.....

Welcome to the neighborhood and many thanks for buying Becker.......The Two and Eleven make a gret combo.....

Thanks ever so much for posting the vid........That guy is OFF the grid.........Fascinating........
