So my question is on forcing a patina. I recently got a new benchmade knife in d2. I did try the vinegar soak and even with heating it up. I soaked for over 12 hours and the only spot showing anything is where the string was tied to suspend it. What else can a newbie do to get a forced patina on this blade.

I haven't patinad D2 but it is crucial to remove any protective chemical coatings that may be on the blade from the factory. Anything from mineral oil to Boeshield T-9 etc.
Use soap and water and a few solvents. Carb cleaner or brake cleaner would be good.
