Hey guys, wasn't really sure where to post this so figured this would be the best place. I'm a new member here on the forum and also a new knife collector (not sure if I'm really a collector yet). I'm 40 years old and a Buck 301 was my first pocket knife when I was about 7 or 8 years old. I still have it. I loved pocket knives as a kid because my dad and grandpa always had them and used them. I started out on Buck because that's what they both carried. When I got to be a teenager I switched to Queen Steel because my dad started carrying Queen and then I got a few Case stockmans and copperlocks because I liked them. My first hunting knife was a Buck 120 that I got for Christmas and I used it on my first deer when I was 13. I ended up losing the 120 and my parents replaced it with a 119 the following Christmas. My dad and I would go to a lot of gun shows and that is where I started buying all my pocket knives. As a boy, I didn't have the patience to save enough money to buy a gun, but I always had plenty of money to buy a new pocket knife! But once I got to high school, I lost interest in knives altogether even though I still kept all of my old knives. As an adult, I never really thought much about knives other than using them as a tool. I've always been a hunter, deer, turkey, dove, rabbit and as an adult I've just always used whatever cheapie knife I had given to me.

But after hunting this year with my own 8 year old son and helping him both his deer and mine using some cheap Chinese plastic handle life, I decided I wanted to get back into knives again. So the first thing I did was ordered a regular old Buck 120 since I lost the first one I had. Then having a 119 and 120, I thought I may as well get a few more of that series because I just liked the look and feel. So I bought a 102, a 105, and a 117! Haven't had a chance to use them for hunting yet. And I liked those so much that I bought a Pursuit Pro 656 and Pursuit Pro 658! And I liked those so much that I bought a 113!

So I guess I've really jumped in head first on knife buying, especially Buck. I still have a lot more Buck knives I plan on buying. But I guess I'm not really interested in buying them to gain value or buying vintage Bucks, or anything. I guess I don't really know what I'm doing. I'm just buying Bucks that I like and that I fully intend to use. Anyway, I'm happy to be here and looking for insight, information, and direction on what kind of knives I should be looking at. Love Buck obviously, but really anything American-made high quality.

Welcome to the group! Sounds like you're off to a great start already. The 100 series Buck knives are my favorite fixed blades. Fair warning, you will get LOTS of good suggestions for new knives to buy, here. You'll find yourself searching for knives that you never knew existed 😄. But it is a lot of fun! Share some photos, when/if you're able. We love to see them.

The 110 and 112 folders are a fantastic part of Bucks history..And worth considering just as a great tool.
And Welcome!!
I forgot, but I also have my dad’s brand new 432 from 1983. The 432 was essentially a 112 that Buck made for Goodyear tires. Buy a set of Goodyear Wramglers and get get a free Buck 432.

I’ll be sure and start posting some photos.

Welcome, I'm sure you will enjoy your time here and with your Buck knives.

FYI, there is the BCCI, Buck Collectors Club, Inc. Membership link here https://buckcollectorsclub.org/membership/become-a-member/ Membership allows you access to past catalogs, model history, a newsletter and many other nice to know doings in the Buck community.
Thanks for the tip. I don’t think I’ll be a collector in the sense of trying to collect rare or valuable knives. I’ll probably be more of the collector that just has a bunch of knives in general. I don’t know enough to be chasing a certain kind of knife. I just like quality knives from honest Constitution-supporting American companies.

Welcome to the Buck Forum FlyingAnvils! Keep doing what you are and you will find your way. Buck knives are addictive, just like potato chips, you cant just have one if you know what I mean. I started just like you as a kid and came back to knives in my late 30's and caught Buck Fever to my surprise now I have a pile of Buck knives and still buy the ones I like no clear direction other than Buck knives. Have fun and you do you, this is a great group of like minded folks.

howdy. welcome to the forum here. we're all glad to have ya.

sounds like ya got quite a few nice ones and many of the 100 fixed series already. it real easy to start grabbing every Buck available...until ya run out of money of course. think you're smart buying quality, American made cutting tools ya will eventually use in your hunting.....but be careful not to get going too crazy too fast and buy just to buy. it can be a very slippery slope to slide easily down and get out of control and lose your way......

Welcome to the forum. Like you, I started here on BF by adding some Bucks. I think I'm up to 17 now with today's arrivals. Some have mentioned BCCI. That very low barrier to entry is the very sharp edge of a giant wedge. In addition to the special knives that are for members only, membership can give some discounts on some of the standard Bucks also. You have been warned/enabled! :p Like you, I'm not really into the rare items either, though I do like to have some representative samples of some of the models. Don't let the CC part of the name fool you. Some of those BCCI knives make mighty fine users also. (I prefer mine that way.)

Welcome F FlyingAnvils ! If you decide to sign up for a BCCI membership, be sure to sign your son up for a free youth membership as well. In one of the Spring newsletters, BCCI gives out a free knife to the youth members. This year, my three kids each got a fantastic Spitfire and were over the moon about it. My youngest is 10, and he's already counting up the free BCCI knives he'll get before he turns 18 and ages out of the youth program.

Aside from the BCCI, this place is a great forum to hang out in. It's the corner of the internet where I don't have to worry about people shouting at each other about the day's news, or getting worked up about anything more consequential than knife steel preferences. People look out for each other here. If people know that you're looking for a particular knife, or you've expressed interest in something that you can't find, you'll likely get a private message pointing you to what you need. I've seen members buy a limited release on someone else's behalf because they knew their friend would be away from the computer and otherwise miss out on something special. Welcome, and I hope you have an awesome time here!

And since we like photos here:

Welcome to the Forum. We lovve Bucks here! Recommend adding a nice pocketable folder like a 55 (small but sturdy, has a large following) or something a little bigger like a 112 (simple, classic design that never goes out of style).
Best, S&D

it real easy to start grabbing every Buck available...until ya run out of money of course.
I can attest to that, I just started buying in August of this year after a good 7-year break. I am back with a vengeance. I've primarily used Ebay funds to purchase the majority of the knives in the past 3 months. But yeah, as others have said.....be warned!! Welcome to this great forum!! Since everyone likes pics, here is what can happen.

(not sure if I'm really a collector yet)...

And it begins...

Welcome to the group! You're going to like it here, but keep in mind that at 40, you're about 1/4 the age of most of us here (the average age here is 158.973 years --- true story). Make sure you always talk really loudly and don't make any sudden movements; you don't want startle someone and make them break a hip!

And get a 110 before someone notices!
