Hey all.
My name in Terry and I'm in Des Moines Iowa.
I've loved knives all my life but only recently (last couple years) have really started buying more and more. I've got 4 Gerbers (EZ out, EZ out jr, paraframe II, and Ridge. A Leatherman squirt, a Gerber multi tool, and finally, and my favorite so far, a Kershaw Ken Onion Leek. I'm looking at buying the Kershaw KO Spec Bump this upcoming weekend when we get our tax return money. My wife thinks I'm crazy and that I've got plenty of knives, but I don't know.... it's kind of addicting, which I'm sure you all have no idea what I'm talking about :D

Anyway, I hope to learn a lot from you all here. Any and all advice is welcome.

Terry

Hey terry! I guess this is a good as any time to introduce myself as well. I live in the heart of the USA as well, and have been knife crazy every since I stumbled upon my grandpas knife collection. Here's to good times!

Hi guys enjoy the forums, best advice....use the search feature lol. There's lots of guys and gals running around this forum that have lots of knowledge to give, and hopefully you two have knowledge and stories of your own. Have fun.

GET OUT WHILE YOU STILL CAN!!!

Welcome! Nice to see someone who introduces himself without asking a stupid question that was answered in the thread below.

I got a Leek myself, been using it every day. That high grind is wicked sharp, even with the relatively poor steel quality. Maybe if you like the Leek and are waiting on your refund, you can wait a couple weeks and grab one of the new Leeks that's coming out in S30V stainless and G10- I've been drooling ever since they were announced.

My only advice to you is to take a big ziploc bag, stick your credit cards and debit cards into it, then pour chicken soup into it and stick it in the freezer. That way you won't be pondering how many Striders/Sebenzas/customs you can get away with buying this month.

Welcome to both of you. I see that you were both up late, like me, celebrating the sloppy Steelers WIN! Oh well, a win is a win.

I came on board here about a year and a half ago with a cheap knife in my pocket. Only cheap because I knew no difference. I always thought that a knife was a knife.

Now that you've been diagnosed in the early stages of "knifeknutism" the progression until the terminal stages will be mounting accumulations of knives and a Sharpmaker and an Edge Pro to keep 'em sharp. As with most exotic diseases like this, there is no known knife cure though the "credit cards in the bag of frozen chicken soup" has been known to offer some relief, albeit not a cure.

Enjoy the affliction (addiction). As mentioned, learn to use the search function. Also visit "In the Toolshed" as that's where you will pickup up much knowledge on maintaining and sharpening your "tools".

Welcome, welcome, welcome!! The first bit of advise I am going to give you is: Take your wallet out of your pocket, open it up, and wave buh-bye to all your money!! If you get that done NOW, it won't be so painful down the road!!

All I can say is Ditto to wht the KnifeCollector said & we Hope you enjoy the forum as much as we do.

Best Regards,

Welcome I'm new to the forums too. I 've found the forums very useful.
I totally recommend the spec bump.

Welcome Mate. Early stages of knife addiction eh? You're in for an interesting few years..........

Thanks everyone. Nice to be welcomed with open arms.

I try to search before I ask just to avoid the "dumb" questions. I've got just shy of 2000 posts over on a fitness site so I know all about being the newbie and what not to do. :)

I understand the comment about not knowing much about the diff types of steels, etc. I've always liked knives but never even considered (or knew about) the higher grades of steel. I really do like the Leek, but damn if it won't hold an edge for crap. Now I know why. I seriously may think about that s30v steel... but for now I've got my heart set on that Spec Bump :D

Welcome.

Just so you know, there is an improved version of the Spec Bump due out very soon. You may want to hold out until that is available. Also, check out Spyderco and Benchmade as far as manufacturers go, they are two of the best.

And, as the others said, be careful lurking around these forums too much if you have the knife bug. You will probably make a lot of silly purchases reading posts here that come back to bite you int the ass at the end of the month when the bills are due, no joke. I, myself bought a Spyderco Carbon Fiber Military tonight because i was lurking here and caught a good deal, and I had no intentions of buying any knives before that happened. :(

Oh, it hurts to think about. But it's true. So horribly true. I try to sell knives on eBay to buy more knives but it's so hard to part with some of them so I end up keeping half the knives I come across. I try to tell myself, "I can buy another one later..." but some of the knives I've picked up recently are becoming rare, so... Oh well, I suppose it's better than booze and tobacco.

Terry Monk, the easy out jr. was one of my 1st too. I like to think of it as "the gateway drug!)
