Hi guys! brand new to the forum! I just wanted to know how you guys clean your folders after cutting food. I want to use my Vic tinker to cut more fruit but i'm afraid of harming the knife through improper cleaning. Any tips much appreciated!

Sorry if this is super redundant I couldn't find any threads about this. Thanks alot!

I really think that the SAKs have cut up more apples, sliced more cheese and generally have been used to cut your sandwich in half as much or more than any pocket folder out there.

Lots of soapy water, scrub where stubborn with an old toothbrush, dry completely then light food grade mineral oil when you are done. I bet that you loose it before you wear it out, even if you live a very long time.

I would venture to guess that in most cases after cutting up an apple, the blades have simply been wiped and placed back in the pocket. Not real sanitary, but I would guess people have been doing this for decades with the same SAK and it is still going strong.

I've cut up oranges with my SAK and just wiped it off on my jeans and stuck it in my pocket. It's got lint in all of the little nooks and crannies but doesn't feel gritty or anything.

Now my BK11, if I am going to cut food or something with it I wash it first. It could have something gross on it that I don't even remember.

Being a chef, I rinse under very hot water and liquid dish soap to break any oily residue.

If blood gets into it, I'll break it down and clean thoroughly.
