Hey there, to anyone who reads this.

I'm new to the knife scene (I've been reading posts on BladeForums for a while, and I've watched a couple of knife related videos). I just got a BladeForum account, and I was wondering if anyone could give me some quick starter advice on taking care of/buying knives. I'm just a collector, but it seems like the people on this site know a lot more about the intricate details of knives that would be hard to find anywhere else.

Also, I'm looking to add a fixed blade Damascus knife to my shelf, and I was wondering if anyone had good recommendations in the $100-$200 range (if there is any good Damascus in that pricing).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

How big a knife are you looking for?

Welcome!

Anything from 5 to 8 inch blade length would be great. I think a larger knife would look better though: more room for the Damascus pattern.

I'll go out on a limb and say pickings will be slim at that size/price (unless you just want it to look at, and pick something up on the bay). It isn't inexpensive to purchase, and it's extra work for the smiths that do their own pattern welding.

Agreed. Triple your budget.
