Hi everybody, newbie here.

I'm looking for a small knife to EDC which is very non-threatening in appearance. My requirements are:

1. Gentlemenly: looks more like "I cut open envelops and apples" rather than "I stab people in the gut". Know what I mean? I'm using this knife as a tool and the last thing I want is for people to interpret it as a weapon.
2. locking blade less than 3" (the law here)
3. pocket clip
4. around $50

I don't have a preference for locking mechanism or steel type. I think a SAK would be nice because they are people due to being widely recognized, but isn't it hard to find them with locking blades and pocket clips? Plus, I don't really want a red handle.

Help!

You can't find a SAK with a pocket clip and a lock, sorry. The money clip knife would be a good bet if you just use the money clip like a pocket clip, but it doesn't lock.

A recommendation... Find the knife you want, and then see if you can get a pocket clip off the internet and install it yourself... I know that knifekits.com has some nice clips.

If you aren't dead set on a pocket clip or locking blade, an ALOX Victorinox Bantam is a great knife to fit your needs. A classy brushed aluminum finish with the bare tools needed day in and day out.

Edit to add: Maybe a Skeletool would fit your needs. It has a liner lock, a blade under 3", a pocket clip, and looks pretty innocent as it is attached to pliers, screwdrivers, and bottle opener.

Actually, the Wenger Ranger 53 is a lock blade and can be purchased with a clip. Unfortunately, the blade is 3.9". :( Thanks for the input though.

Those silver alox victorinix's look sharp. Except for the locking blade and pocket clip is sure fits the bill.

The skeletool is really cool looking, but far too big for EDC IMO.

How about a Kershaw scallion or Leek? They both come in a large variety with the Leek having numerous blade steel options. The Leek is a 3" blade and the Scallion is under 3". I have both and they have never let me down. I have given away numerous Scallions to friends, particularly the equestrian crowd, who love them and have been spoiled by the speed safe action.

Plus one on the Scallion. My co-worker just bought one last week. Very handsome stainless steel handle with a frame lock and a blade of around 2.75". It came plenty sharp right out of the box. Cute little bugger:)

I have a buck alpha dorado folder, which I like quite a bit, although it has no pocket clip.

Well, I ended up buying the Kershaw Chive for $40 at Dick's Sporting Goods. I like it, plus it's thinner than my Gerber mini fast draw, so it is more comfortable behind the waistband. Thanks for the suggestions gentlemen.

I love the Kershaw Chive. Its a great little knife. I EDC that knife everyday. Small, strong lock, and sharp. Speedsafe is nice.

You made a great buy.
