Howdy folks! I'm new in town. I'm looking to get one of these solid folders for hiking, utility, and peace of mind on my nightstand. Which one should I get? Advice appreciated, thanks, mates!

I like them both alot...to me the AFCK is more of a fighting folder. The military seems more practical for what you want. BUT this is just one mans opinion...you'll hear many praises on both of them. :D

Does the military "open" like the Endura? I'm not really impressed by the Endura's action. I know I like the Axis lock, though. Just curious, how many AFCK owners actually use their's for fightin'?

If action is what you're looking for go with the AFCK. It's as smooth as a baby's ass! I have had two AFCK 806D2's and never had an issue. I never used them for anything BUT self-d though. BUT...then again that's just me! If you get one you'll see what I mean. To me it's just designed as a tactical folder and probably one of the best ones out there.

There is comparison? I'd go for the Military big time. Great steel, Flat grind, very sharp edge. The only thing that prevents me from getting my own is that the handle shape doesn't quite fit my own (fairly small) hands that well.

I used my mini-AFCK and AFCK both for EDC work for about 6-7 months and had no probs with either of them. They are fully capable of doing everyday tasks. I'd go with the AFCK.

D2 is better than VG-10 IMO
G10 is better than FRN
Axis lock rules :D

I use my 806D2 for just about everything. Cutting down boxes, yard work, you name it. Plus, it feels great in the hand!

The Military is not VG-10, nor FRN. But rather is CPMS30V (newer models) or CPM 440V (older models still available) with G-10 scales. I don't think you'll go wrong with either. I've got the 806D2 and it's really great. But my next folder may well be the Military.

i like Spydercos, but i like my AFCK better than any Spyderco.

Peace of mind on your nightstand? Trouble with the lady's bra? :D

I'd take the bm. Ihave both, but the millie doesnt go to work or hiking. The 440v is too tough to sharpen when damaged, especially in the field. My afck is a liner lock. The millie fits my hand better, love the flat grind, and the choil. But if I had to grab one and hit the boonies I'll take the bm.

The comparison is pretty clear between these knives.

The AFCK is stronger than the Military, due to full liners, thicker blade, and the axis lock.
The Military is a better pure cutter than the AFCK, due to the full flat grind and thinner blade.

However, these knives are very similar; the performace difference will be slight either way.

They both are good designs. Of the two I would probably take the BM for general usage, as I prefer the full steel liners and axis lock to the Spyderco design.

You can always monkey with edge geometry to improve cutting performance but fundamental design elements are very hard to change. As I have said before, I feel that the weight/size penalty imposed by steel liners is insignificant when compared to the benefits that they offer.

If possible you may wish to handle both products before you make up your mind, as they are so similar that better ergonomics could likely be a deciding factor.

If I was looking for a 4" general use folder I'd take the BM 710 over either of these knives.

While I'm not wealthy by any stretch of the imagination, I am lucky enough to own several of each.
3 Milllies
CE-CPM440V
SE-ATS-34
PE-CPM440V
AFCKs
D-2 Axis lock bronze bushings
2-M-2 old school 800 liner lock
3-ATS-34 800 AFCK CE
Mini,s 154CM CE Tanto
AFCK 154CM PE clip point.
Pros for the B/Ms slickest opening folder on the market.
dual liners, bronze phospher washers, super strong locking system, BT coated blades.
Pros for the Millie, flat grind, lighter weight, CPM-steels, and not to be argumentative BUT the Military blade IS thicker, opening hole is better suited for gloved hands with it's 9/16ths inch dia.
The B/M is the stronger of the 2 knives by a far stretch, but the Military is also damned strong for a no liner system, you realy can't go wrong with either. Ron
