I inherited a custom made antique kitchen knife, made by Bill Scagel. My stepfather brought it into our house around 1957. It is 14 inches long. I have had an estimate of its value by a dealer, but I would like to get other opinions before I list it for sale. I have pictures below, now that I am a gold member. Click to see in "reply".

Asking for knife values is reserved to Gold members (and above). Figure out how to post pics (I'd tell you if I knew), ask for any information you can get, and then use that to figure out the value elsewhere. OR - buy a Gold membership, ask the value, and stick around and enjoy the forum.

This is going to cost you a tiny bit more money, but if it were mine, I'd ask Bernard Levine for a formal appraisal -

http://knife-expert.com/appr-k.htm .

He's known in every high end knife collecting circle, and with Scagels you really need a authority on them to back authentication, etc.... if you want the highest price. Also he'll be honest about it, the Scagel market has tighten up a bit the last decade, with a lot of people selling, and not as many people paying as much as they used too. So you need someone that knows that market.

I'm not shilling for him, it's just that with appraising something like this you need a specialized person to do it.
