I'm new to knives and I'm looking for a neck knife for self defense, outdoors, basically general purpose... I found a few options on bladehq and would be interested in some opinions. Other inexpensive option welcome...

Becker knife and tool 11 & 14 are very popular around here. I have the Izula and like it a bunch but never use it around my neck.. For budget edc the CRKT Minimalist line is good.

Don't know anything about the ones you posted.

I saw the Becker, but saw complaints about the sheath dulling the knife. I like the Izula, but didn't see a point in buying a pricey knife when there are others that use the exact same material at a lower price point...

In your opinion, other than not having the same exact blade shape, is there really difference between the Beker, Izula, or, for example, the $20 Schrade SCHF5SN when they all are about the same thickness, are made of 1095 steel, and are drop point blades? Am I just paying extra for the brand name's reputation, but could possibly be getting the same knife?

ESEE also has one of the beat warranties. If you're also going to carry a knife around for SD, I would make sure it's a quality knife.

Their are so many....Google neck knives and hit images or videos....that should keep you busy for awhile !!!!! I have an Esee Izula izula.jpg I have a neck knife from Anza which is made from an old fileanza.PNG...its a little small but cool...Cold Steel has some cool ones to

What's the difference between a $60 vs $20 knives when their both 1095, razor sharp, and around the same dimensions?

Remember also...Esee knives have a life time warranty.. you can cut it in half and they will replace it so you are paying for that also...

2014-04-23_09-21-33_297.jpg You got me thinking of my neck knives...They range from $80 to $20 bucks...Needless to say i went a little crazy with the orange paracord but I wanted them to be high visibility just encase we dropped one on a trail...I also use my Esse 3 as a neck sometimes.. i didnt put that one in the pic..that one is venom green also...

Thats a little overkill with orange LoL still looks cool though!! HahA

Are you going to be carrying it on you all the time? Or are you going to be using it only when you are hiking/camping? My only advice would be to think about what task its going to be doing 90% of the time and tailor the grind/blade profile to that. My all time favorite production knives are the EnZo line of knives from Brisa. They have awesome heat treats, very practical blade profiles, solid grinds, and awesome steels.

That is their necker line. You can get a kydex sheath for them as well, with the choice of full flat or scandi grinds. I couldn't recommend them more.

I know it has already been stated, but ESEE's warranty is the best in the business. You truly get what you pay for with a higher quality brand. Went Spyderco and now I never touch my old one (please no comments on Spyderco, lets help this guy out). Quality is everything!

I would also recommend the Enzo necker. Excellent knives for very good prices. And they can be found with micarta or curly birch scales too.

Quality is important but i started out buying the cheaper knives and they still work !!! I guess whats important is find one that YOU think will fit your needs and just buy it..Worst case scenario you'll just have to buy another one ...nothing wrong with that !!

Izula, Becker Necker are great if you need a small sharpened prybar, if your looking for a finer more precise edge go with the Minimalist series.

I have three neck knives, AG Russell Woodswalker, Buck Hartsook and a BK 11. The Woodswalker is a great little knife with a thin useful blade. Though not for heavy tasks, I love the handle. The Hartsook gets worn the most, especially when I don't have pockets and want a knife handy. It is small. The BK11 is heavy IMHO. I added scales and clip to the sheath and wear it as a belt knife. Though I have $100 knives, I often find an inexpensive Mora or Cold Steel performs just as well. I'm planning on selling my BK11 and some other knives.

A knife that I am interested in is the AG Russell Hunter's Scalpel or Bird and Trout.

BK24 very good option. Comes with a neck sheath although it sux. The ones you shown i personally wouldn't really want any of them. Not trying to be a d*ck but their are better options for not alot of $. Bk24 with D2 steel would be a good choice for a "neck knife" .Can find for $40 new if you look around. I wouldn't carry a knife around my neck unless just to show it off though.
