I've been looking into buying an Emerson La Griffe and found out about the Fred Perrin G 10 (on this forum - thanks). Is there a difference. Do they both have chisel ground blade? It appears that they are the same size. I see that the Perrin model costs almost twice as much. Is there a difference in quality. I have an Emerson commander and have no problems with it, other than I think that the chisel grind is tough to sharpen.

If by Perrin G10 you mean the one made entirely of G10... you see the difference, it's basicly a plastic knife.
Now if it'a a regular Perrin La Griffe, I have one of those and it's not chisel ground but double ground. The price difference is not a surprise, one is a production knife and the other one is handmade.
Welcome to the forums!

If I understand you correctly, you are comparing a factory made reproduction to an original which is hand made by Perrin himself.

Though the Emerson may be fine and functional, in my opinion I'd much rather have one made by Fred himself.

On the other hand, if you're referring to a La Griffe model made entirely of G-10, that knife is strictly a low weight, non magnetic self defense option with low cutting ability.

In that case I'd opt for either of the others, depending on my particular needs.

And finally, welcome aboard, hope you enjoy the forums.

As a gentle reminder, this particular forum is for the discussion of custom knives so I am going to move this thread over to the Emerson section for further discussion.

guess I got the model number wrong.
Looking for metal and saw the G10 looked liked the Emerson La Griffe. Actually like the long La Griffe better. Where are the best sites to try to buy one?

Thanks for all the help. I'm glad I checked with this forum. I could easily have ended up with the Perrin G10 instead of a metal blade.

Also, the blade shapes are different.

Some time back, Fred actually made a special run of all G10 La Griffe's for the "Usual Suspects" here. A simple search here will pull up some info on them.

Both are awesome. While I prefer the EKI La Griffe for everyday carry, the G10 goes places that metal fears to tread. ;)

I have seen a lot of blade shapes of Perrin's La Griffe. I have a "wharnie" (you can see it here). I've also seen hawkbills, tantos, clip points ... and they are all great.
