Afternoon all. I wanted your opinion on my recent purchase to start stock removal. I wanted to start out as frugal as I could to get a taste of making knives but I don't think I could have passed this deal up. I found a gentleman who has gotten out of knifemaking and informed me he had a 2"x72" Whilton Square Wheel for sale. Intrigued I stopped by. Needless to say I left with the grinder (about 11 years old and he converted it to 220 and added an inverter), stand, a number of various belts, sheets of titanium, a piece of damascus, all his master blanks for folders (blades and handles), various hardware for making folders, handle material to include Micarta, Mammoth ivory and various others, a Dremel, his drawings for knives, a tube of precision ground ATS 24, some SV30 and other things that I am probably forgetting about so I need to go through it all again. I paid $700 for all. Wise investment?

D A N G! Good score! I wish there were any knife makers in my city, let alone ones giving it up!

Oh and put up some pics!

great deal, the grinder alone, even in only ok condition, is worth that. Good score

In my area a new Wilton with only a 1 hp fixed speed motor is
$2,400 plus 13% taxes

If you have variable speed that is fantastic
the remaining supplies are a great bonus.

$700 for an old Wilton and a bunch of junk???
Sounds like you got ripped off!!! :D

You're on your way to a wonderful experience Brett!!!
You'll find out that knife people are the nicest and most giving folks out there!!

Thanks to you all for the positive feedback and thank you Michael for the trove of goodies and information. It all will find itself in a great home. I hope that we can get together when I get everything set up and you can teach me a thing or twelve. Thanks again.

That is a heck of a deal for sure! Have fun with the grinder, and post up some pictures of your knives.

Naaaa. You got screwed royally, but I would be willing to take it all off your hands for, say maybe $10. ;-)

Dang Brett, what a deal. Did you get that from someone around our area? Yeah, well worth the money IMO. Good for
You. You can put those files up on a shelf......

It is a Godsend and I think it was meant to be how it came along. Rob, it was from a Veteran that lives in Mary Esther, he even commented on this thread....L6steel. A very nice guy with a lot of good information. Thanks for the offer Paul. I will sleep on it....ha ha. Still hot enough in Wisconsin to be Florida? Sorry Jonnymac, lonepine had the first offer at $10....HA! Thanks again Michael!

Awesome deal!I love my Square wheel grinder. Those jigs and odds and ends will come in more and more handy the more you learn too.

I am more excited than a fat kid on a donut shop. To top it off, my buddy who is in the desert right now is moving his wife and house items to Cannon AFB this fall and is GIVING me his chop saw, bench grinder, MIG welder and workbench. I have good friends and am SET!

Now comes the 'process' of learning how to use it all to bring that steel to life!
