Newbie question: about corrosion

I've decided to purchase my first Busse. I live along the coast in an extremely corrosive environment (saltwater breezes - high humidity). In my area, anything that can rust does, and amazingly fast (unless its kept literally soaked in oil). I'm considering purchasing, in particular, a Battle Mistress. Is the satin finish the most corrosion resistant of all the Busse finishes or are there other Busse finishes I should consider?

One other question in this regard — if I use any of the typical rust preventatives (such as Browning Gun Oil or Breakfree CLP) liberally on the blade and the lubricant gets on the micarta handles while in storage, would this lubricant harm the micarta?

Deadwood, you wrote:

Micarta is incredibly durable, and is not affected by chemicals, moisture, or temperature. Oil will thus not affect it in the slightest, and would also serve to change its color to some extent. (Applying oil to Micarta generally makes it darker, and for multi-color material, doing so will bring out more color.)

infi in satin,,,, is very stain resistant.. go for it..

Thank you for the information about stains.

With the exception of Victorinox SAKs, I've had major league rust problems with knives. That's why rust resistence is my primary concern with Busses.

INFI is fairly rust resistant but not rust-proof like H1 or other stainless steels. My sugestion is to use Tuff-cloth to protect it if you notice that it starts to rust in your environment. I live near the ocean and do not have problems with rust so far. Hope that helps. Welcome to the Busse World. :D

I've had a Spyderco in H1 and not had any rust problems with it. But I've had surprising rust problems with numerous other name brand stainless steel knifes.

Like infi at .5 carbon.. Keep the breakfree on them and you will be ok.. It would take like 30 years to rust through a battle mistress.. Lol

I live right on the ocean; I can literally open my window and spit into the water. I also live in a rainforest. In my experience, as long as you take care of your knife it will be fine. I have a couple Busses that I put Hoppes on and a couple that I use mineral oil on. No issues here. You will be alright.

satin is likely more corrosion resistant than double cut, but anything coated will obviously be moreso than either.

ive had my satin blades rust, but removal was pretty simple. no pitting, just surface rust after leaving it out all night. it was covered in dew in the morning, and there were rust spots near the talon holes.

i agree. get something coated. you can also polish up the edge to help with corrosion on that part too
