Newbie question...broken 110 blade.....

Hi all......My first post here...I am a Firefighter in NY and carry a Buck 110 on my turnout gear...During an MVE (motor vehicle extrication) I broke the front 1/4 of the blade off...I have never experienced anything like this before , as I'm usually very careful of my gear....I was wondering if the knife is shot, and should be discarded, or is there any kind of blade replacement/repair that Buck does?
The knife is a few years old and I have no receipt for it....Although the sheath is well worn and the belt loop has long since broke, It still locks up tight and is my favorite knife....

I'd appreciate any info on my next move....

Regards

* If you have a problem posting pictures, there is a Quick & Dirty tutorial at Photobucket For Dummies. If you don't have a digital camera, but do have a scanner, lay your knife on the glass and throw a light colored towel/t-shirt/cloth over it and scan it. Save the pic, and follow the above instructions for posting pics.

**Please be considerate of those who must pay for bandwidth - post thumbnails of your pics. Instructions are in the Photobucket For Dummies tutorial.

A long time ago I had a Buck 110 that I had used for many years. Once I managed to come into contact with a live connection on my water heater while opening the insulation to gain access to the thermostat, and that burned the tip off of the blade. I used a file and a stone to reprofile the point, and I continued to use it several more years until it became "swaybacked." I returned it to Buck with an inquiry about repairing it, and they sent it back to me in about two weeks with a new blade (and spring?) in my nicely polished handle at no charge. By the way, I have always regarded Buck blades as being somewhat brittle, not to mention being more of a pain to sharpen than many other knives.

 ...Welcome 218bee...( nice ol' cartridge there...LOL ) Trax is sayin' that Joe Houser can take that 110 and make it as good as new. Just read his "Welcome" and all the info is there. Joe Houser is the moderator of this group as well as being a "BIG KAHOONA" at Buck:eek: ...he's also a great guy:D ...Again, Welcome to the forum...

218bee...
99% certain that Buck will fix your knife for free. Wait for Joe to reply to be certain, but I'm guesing he will tell ya to send it to
"BKI" (don't write Buck Knives on the package to avoid theft), ATTENTION: JOE HOUSER.

The turnaround may be 4-6 weeks.

I have nothing but respect for all fireman and most Five-O.
Have a reason for the "all" and "most" qualification of that last statement, but that's another story.

Cannot e-mail you as you don't have that option in your profile when I click on it.

So, 218bee, e-mail me with your address. I will mail you a brand new 110 sheath...never even been folded over to be snapped closed. Just a small token of appreciation for your service.

Welcome to the Buck Forum 218!!!

A quarter inch is probably too much to reprofile and the tip still lay down inside the handles.

Like the guys have said. Buck will fix it right up.

218bee , The mongoose and the rat are right.Send it to Joe H.
and buck will fix it right. They fixed mine.
Welcome to the Fourm.

Yeah HeeBeeGeeBee...
Read what I wrote, (http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showpost.php?p=4639552&postcount=6). There are probably a lot of postal employees with some cool Buck knives.

Or, don't read it iffn ya don't want a free sheath from the Goose Home of Wayward Bucks.

I'm not a nice guy, so take the offer before I hear from one of my ex's and my whole mood changes ;)

I'll take you up on the sheath....Much appreciated....Please let me reimburse you for the shipping......I thank you also for the kind words of my profession...It means alot to us when people say that....

Please email me off site and we can go from there...

[

(I couldn't find any way to email you here on this site..(I know...Damn Newbie..;) ...)

Thanks again for your generosity & kind words...

218Bee: It will be hard to believe it's the same knife when you get it back. So be sure to take a before and after pic... we love to see those :D

From your screen name, I take it you're fan of hyper velocity small caliber rifles??

HeeBeeGeeBee...
Do like Messy said. Take a pic of the before and after and post here. IF ya can't get a pic posted due to pilot-error, e-mail me the pics and I will post for ya.

...Yeah...but ya oughta see him a few minutes after he sees his 3rd or 4th ex-wife...  ...sheeesh...;)

Jim, that is nice of you to say. But I'm not a nice guy...I'm just playin' ya all here cuz I heard some of ya got some cute daughters. ;)

Doc D., I only have two ex's. The third (next-ex) is in training and my fourth ex ain't born yet.

And, talk about "fresh hell"...about two Saturdays ago, my daughter has a baby-shower. BOTH ex wives and my wife-du-jour (next ex) planned it together and attended. First time the three of them have ever been in the same room. And my wife wonders why I was late in picking her up from that gig? I had to sober up.

You guys better sit down for the pic Goose is gonna post of my old Buck 110....Man, that knife has been through alot with me....I'm glad Joe H. & Buck are going to help it out so it lives on... Awesome company...I'll post "after" pics when it comes back..

And, yes... 218 Bee is my favorite caliber...I try to get away a few times each summer and do some upstate NY woodchuck hunting....The farms are all subdivided and built up, so the days of the .22-250 & 6MM are over :grumpy: !!!

Thanks again to all involved here...You guys rock....

You weren't kidding!!!
I thought you broke off the "tip"...looks like you laser cut the blade in two.

As the caregiver at the Goose Home for Wayward Bucks, the thing that makes me sad is to see the pound marks on the handle.

I have a teardrop like that Italian American in the litter commercials from the early 70's.

And, yes, I wrote "Italian". Reference: http://www.snopes.com/movies/actors/ironeyes.htm
Cool that you can see the whole commercial via a video link at the end of the link immediately above.
