Newbie Question On Microbevels

I read a few posts that I did not understand regarding the use of the Spyderco Sharpmaker to create a microbevel. If you use the Sharpmaker to create a profile of 30-degrees, why would you go back to create a microbevel of 40-degrees? Does this offer any advantage in edge retention or durability? Does it hold true for D2 as well as 440C? Does it work for a general use camp knife as well as a Chef's knife used as a slicer in the kitchen?

Thanks in advance for your patience with my questions!!

It is faster to resharpen at 40 than at 30 is the main reason for using microbevels. As a secondary reason, the main edge grind usually does not need to be as obtuse as the final edge bevel (microbevel) so multiple bevels will generally allow a knife to cut better at a given durability. Yes, in general this holds true for all knives of any steel.
